A Wisconsin man has become the eighth person charged by the state of Michigan and the 14th person charged overall for his alleged role in the kidnapping plot of Gov. ALPINE (CNS) - San Diego County will open an erosion control center in Alpine tomorrow to help businesses and homeowners prevent debris flows in the areas burned by the Valley Fire.The center, at 2914 Tavern Road, will offer free sandbags, fiber rolls and other items to help residents stabilize properties before rains arrive. and potentially trigger mudslides and debris flows, county officials said.Starting Thursday, the center will be open to business and property owners from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments are not required this weekend, but will be required starting on Monday.Residents and business owners can schedule an appointment to pick up erosion control materials by calling the county's stormwater hotline at 888-846-0800.Staff will be available to advise on how to protect properties, homes, garages, sheds and other structures. In December, they wrote a pile of letters to anyone they could reach, successfully keeping a convicted sexual predator out of their neighborhood.Now they want to ensure the home is removed from the list for good. The problem is the State Department of Hospitals says the homeowner is the one who agrees to rent to the predators. Neighbors want to find a workaround, "I think that's kinda silly, if they can put an address on a list they can take it off, I don't know what the big problem is," Grandfather of nine James Greaney said. The recall is of the Ring Video Doorbell model number 5UM5E5 smart doorbell cameras. CPSC describes the model as having a blue ring at the front, and coming in two colors, 'satin nickel,' which is black and silver, and 'venetian bronze,' also known as black and bronze. The models were sold with a mounting bracket and a USB charging cable.Ring is a subsidiary of Amazon and makes internet-connected home devices.The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a notice on Tuesday explaining the recall. The device’s battery “can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation,” the CPSC stated.“Ring has received 85 incident reports of incorrect doorbell screws installed with 23 of those doorbells igniting, resulting in minor property damage.
