CNN has learned an arrest warrant was issued over the summer for R. Kelly's former manager, James Mason, after Mason was accused of threatening to kill the father of Joycelyn Savage, one of the women featured in "Surviving R. Kelly."The incident, which allegedly took place in May 2018, was reported by Timothy Savage to Henry County police. Savage claims his daughter is being held against her will by R. Kelly and Mason threatened him for speaking out about it.Reached by phone Wednesday morning, Mason told CNN he had "no comment" and referred additional questions to his attorney.In an incident report obtained by CNN, Timothy Savage stated that Mason said, "I'm gonna do harm to you and your family, when I see you I'm gonna get you, I'm going to f***ing kill you."The case was presented to a Magistrate Judge who issued a warrant in July, citing "terroristic threats and acts." Creating vape juice, the liquid inside e-cigarettes, is a complicated process, that someone like George Cassels-Smith can talk for hours about. Cassels-Smith’s knowledge of e-juice and the electronic tobacco business stems from his family’s long history in traditional tobacco. In the early 1900s, his great grandfather ran a company around flavoring cigarettes. His father took the business over and eventually, it fell into his hands after his father passed. “I lost my father due to cigarettes,” said Cassels-Smith. “He was a lifetime smoker. He had three heart attacks and two strokes and cancer twice, and that’s why I entered into manufacturing e-juice.”The family business is now eLiquidTech, located outside Maryland. “I’d like to try and help people with their nicotine dependence with a safer alternative,” he said.When it comes to the safety of vaping, the Centers for Disease Control says almost 1,500 people around the country with a reported a history of vaping have been hospitalized with acute lung illnesses. More than two dozen people have died from it. “For the last 10 years, there have been relatively no health risk associated with it or very low,” said Cassels-Smith. “Now, all of a sudden, people are dropping like flies. What has been new that’s been introduced?”The CDC is still trying to figure that out. However, that question bothered George Cassels-Smith so much, he decided to test every product eLiquidTech makes. The test revealed, “that we were not introducing a biological problem to the agents that we compound.”Weeks of talking with other vaping manufacturers and industry insiders has left Cassels-Smith believing the cause of the outbreak may stem from black-market products or people introducing additional substances to legally manufactured vaping products. His strongest suggested culprit is THC. “I have a hypothesis that it is cannabis related,” Cassels-Smith said. “Those are oil-based products for delivering big aerosol, as opposed to PG glycerin-based, which is for making nicotine products.”Around 78 percent of the people who have come down with vaping related illness, or who have died, have reported using THC liquids in their e-cigarettes. However, the CDC has not definitively pointed to that being the cause of this outbreak. The CDC’s current statement on the cause of the rash of recent lung illnesses and deaths is, “At this time, FDA and CDC have not identified the cause or causes of the lung injuries in these cases, and the only commonality among all cases is that patients report the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products.”“I would ask the CDC and the FDA to carefully look at the delineation into scrutinize what these elements are associated with,” said Cassels-Smith. “We need to do more effort to find out what is exactly doing this.” Answers would help eLiquidTech’s business, which typically it produces 80,000 to 100,000 kilos of vape juice. The neighborhood has been majority black for years, but gentrification has recently brought more white people to the area. Rhonda J. Smith organized the meeting and wrote the flyers. She says she chose the wording deliberately to hit some nerves. She's lived in the Russell Woods-Sullivan neighborhood for more than 20 years and is seeing a change with more white people moving into homes."I was tired of hearing the same story about the white gentrifiers and the black victims," Smith said. "I wanted to see if there is another angle I can approach."She's a fellow with the Detour Detroit online newsletter.Smith says some of her black neighbors have complained to her about new white residents walking their dogs and messing up their yards. CLEVELAND — Ohio drivers have mixed reactions when commenting on Senate Bill 78, which is proposing a ban on smoking in vehicles when children ages six and younger are passengers.The measure sponsored by state Sen. Tina Maharath, D-Canal Winchester, calls for a 0 fine for first-time violators of the law and a fine of 0 plus 0 for each additional citation.Dr. Kristie Ross with Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland told WEWS she believes the proposed law makes a lot of sense since secondhand smoke exposure for children sets up plenty of potential health issues."When they're in a car and someone is smoking, it's a very concentrated exposure," Ross said."When you smoke there's particles that settle onto things and that can lead to exposure, and what we call thirdhand smoke."In children it impedes the way that their lungs grow and develop, the lung size when they reach adulthood."It can trigger asthma attacks in kids who are vulnerable to those, and makes kids more vulnerable to ear infections."Anna Busta said she supports the bill."I feel like the first offense fine is kind of high, with the prevalence of smoking, but I think it's great, especially for younger kids with disabilities," the Ohio driver said.But other drivers, like Sandra Buckner, believe the proposed law is too restrictive."I kind of think that we are inventing laws that take away our civil liberties and pretty soon we will live in a communist state where you are telling me what to do every second of every day," Buckner said.Ohio tried to pass a similar law in 2017.Senate Bill 78 has now been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.Several other states have already adopted vehicle smoking bans while children are in cars as passengers. 1764
