BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for further cooperation with the United Nations when meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on his 10th visit to China.
The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague is set to announce its final decision next Tuesday in territorial disputes between China and the Philippines.
The two countries should enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and maintain the momentum of development in bilateral relations and cooperation, said the Chinese president.
"It will be important for both sides to demonstrate that engagement yields real tangible results that the peoples of both countries can actually feel, and that are contributing to create jobs and their economic wellbeing," he added.
"A friendly, stable and sound China-Philippines relationship is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and the two peoples," Xi said, adding that he hoped the two sides would work together to get bilateral relations back onto the track of sound development.
