Housing and rates are worrying some economists that a recession is looming."One of the biggest concerns is the housing market," said Lindsey Piegza, chief economist for Stifel, on CNNMoney's "Markets Now" live show Wednesday. "We are going back to a lot of the easy lending that we used to see."Although Piegza said a recession isn't necessarily imminent -- especially after quarterly growth just came in at the fastest pace in almost four years -- there are signs of waning momentum in the economy.Interest rates, for example, are starting to become a bad omen.The Federal Reserve, which finished up its two-day meeting Wednesday, is expected to raise its target rate two more times this year. Higher rates have boosted short-term US Treasury bond rates. But the longer-term bond rates haven't risen along with the shorter-term rates, because investors are growing wary about the economy over the long haul.With two more interest rate hikes planned, the Fed could boost short-term rates higher than long-term ones, inverting the so-called yield curve. An inverted yield curve has preceded every recession in modern history."We could easily be there by the end of the year," Piegza said. "I think we'll see pressure on the longer end by the end of the year, but the Fed will still be raising rates on the short end."Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has said that he is not concerned about an inverted yield curve. (AP) — Wildlife officials say a goose is recovering after being found with a large arrow through its neck at the same Southern California park where a goose and a gull swallowed prescription pills last month.The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that the goose flew around with the arrow in its neck for a week before it was finally captured at Carr Park in Huntington Beach.The arrow was removed and the bird was given antibiotics, IV fluids and painkillers. It's expected to fully recover.Shortly before Christmas, a Canadian goose and a ring-bill gull had their systems flushed after eating pills — including sedatives — that someone dumped in the park. Both birds have recovered after being treated at a wildlife center.Officials don't know whether the two incidents are related. 816

IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) -- Some South Bay parents said they are frustrated with their internet company after they learned of planned outages during the middle of the school day.Michael Crawford’s daughter is in her first year of high school and like many local students, is starting the year online. Crawford said the transition to virtual learning has not been easy for her. When he learned of the Cox communications outage planned for Tuesday, Crawford said it only added insult to injury. According to a notice he received on his door Friday, the planned service outage was slated to begin at 5 a.m. and last until three in the afternoon.He called Cox Communications, but did not get any answers. “I spent an hour on the phone with them. The lady seemed very sympathetic at first and then she [came] back on the phone and said there’s nothing we could do about it,” Crawford said.His neighbors received the same notice about the planned outage. Crawford questioned why the company doesn’t perform the work later in the day or on the weekends.“I pay them 0 a month for my services and that’s just my house,” Crawford said. “This is a lot of money they’re making and I don’t see why they can’t just pay some overtime for a Saturday. We’re all making sacrifices right now and even the big companies need to make the sacrifices as well.”A Cox Communications spokesperson confirmed the outage due to network upgrades. She said the time on the notice is a window and the average time that a customer is without service is two hours.“We recognize the inconvenience to our customers,” said spokesperson Ceanne Guerra. “Our crews are working really hard to complete this work as quickly as possible. HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A 60-year-old Huntington Beach woman who went missing while walking her dog in the Bristlecone Pine Forest in Inyo County was found alive Monday on the fourth day of an intensive search.Inyo County sheriff's officials announced shortly after 2 p.m. that Sheryl Powell had been found near the Montenegro Springs area, near the area where her dog had been found earlier in the day.``Searchers describe her as resilient and strong but exhausted after being lost in an extremely remove area above Big Pine,'' according to the sheriff's office.She was being taken to a hospital to be checked out. Powell was reported missing by her husband at about 2 p.m. Friday, Inyo County sheriff's officials said.Powell's husband told deputies they had just arrived at a campsite and she took their 5-pound, black-and-white dog for a walk while he was parking their Jeep.
