SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former La Jolla restaurant owner convicted of raping multiple women was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years in prison.On a live stream to the courtroom while sitting in jail, Daniel Dorado was read his term after several women gave their victim impact statements.The former owner of Voce Del Mare was found guilty last December on 20 counts related to rape and sexual assault of four victims who were unconscious and intoxicated. ABC10 News broke the story two years ago when he was charged with drugging and raping women, sometimes at his restaurant.Fighting back tears on Tuesday, one victim described her trauma from meeting Dorado after answering an ad on Craigslist for a hostess position. "Years after the assault, I still don't feel safe going to job interviews in-person, alone. I don't feel safe to do outdoor activities alone. I can't tolerate being around men. Not even family," she stated."He is an evil individual," said another woman who added, "I simply went on a date with him and ended up getting sexually assaulted by him for hours in a hotel room where I was unconscious."One woman who was named as a victim defended Dorado on Tuesday and said that she was even friends with him. She accused detectives of manipulating her to testify against her will and appear confused about a possible assault. She told the judge, "Your honor, Mr. Dorado never raped me. I never went to the police. I never filed a police report. In fact, I declined a restraining order against Mr. Dorado and I told detectives that I did not want to press charges."Dorado addressed the courtroom and denied any wrongdoing. He added, "I have spoken the truth since the very first day that this all began. I did not skip town. I did not make faces to the accusers. I am still in shock by what has happened." He maintains his innocence and has said that every sexual encounter was consensual."The total term of imprisonment is 40 years. I don't mind saying [that] I believe this is the maximum I can impose under the law," the judge told the courtroom. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A frustrated neighborhood in Sabre Springs is preparing to fight back amid a string of car break-ins.Bill Powers owns a townhouse just off Poway Road where Sabre Springs meets Poway. A year ago, he says the reports on social media of car prowlers started to climb."Anger and frustration that it's happening right on my back doorstep," said Powers.An idea was born from that frustration.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"I think the use of a bait car would be really helpful," said Powers.He recently proposed the idea online and almost immediately, someone already volunteered their old car.Powers says the bait will be something like a used laptop, placed in plain view.  He'll pitch in some of the cameras, including GoPro cameras, to be mounted on homes and windows."Our goal is to get decent footage of the act and share it with proper authorities," said Powers.Powers is also looking for help."I have volunteers but definitely need more," said Powers.He's hoping for neighbors willing to take a shift watching the car. Powers tells 10News the volunteers will be following an "Observe and Report" to police or deputies protocol. Powers hopes to have the bait car up and running in the next few months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family’s trip to the pumpkin patch goes sour when thieves went picking through their car while they were picking out their pumpkins.Fay Feltman, her daughter, her granddaughter and great grandson went to the pumpkin patch located off Mission Gorge in Grantville.Because of how busy the lot was, they struggled to find an open space. Once inside, the granddaughter got a call from her dad asking about a recent Walmart charge of 00.RELATED: Intruder raids Del Cerro bedroom while woman sleepsFeltman still frustrated Tuesday, “Who would think this would happen at a pumpkin patch”. She tells 10 News her daughter ran to the car to find the window smashed and the purse stolen right from the trunk of the car.Feltman says her and her family were only in the patch for about 30 minutes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old has been arrested after being shot by a store clerk he was trying to rob, San Diego Police say.According to police, Hector Lopez-Gastelum entered the La Michoacana store on the 700 block of Vesta Street around 10:40 a.m. on October 18 demanding cash. Police say Lopez-Gastelum was armed with a handgun.After the clerk handed over the cash, the suspect reportedly demanded that a second register be opened.“While Lopez-Gastelum was still in the store, the clerk shot him twice in the torso with his own handgun, which is legally owned,” police said.The clerk then retrieved Lopez-Gastelum’s handgun and called 911. The suspect was taken to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
