WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two different doses of a thyroid medication are being recalled because they're not potent enough.The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that Acella Pharmaceuticals is voluntarily recalling one lot of 15-milligram and one lot of 120-milligram NP Thyroid?, Thyroid Tablets.The products may have as low as 87% of the labeled amount of levothyroxine, which is used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), according to the FDA.The company’s risk statement says patients being treated for hypothyroidism who receive sub potent NP Thyroid may experience symptoms of hypothyroidism, including fatigue, increased sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, puffy face, hair loss, slow heart rate, depression, swelling of the thyroid gland and/or unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight.“There is reasonable risk of serious injury in newborn infants or pregnant women with hypothyroidism including early miscarriage, fetal hyperthyroidism, and/or impairments to fetal neural and skeletal development,” wrote Acella. “In elderly patients and patients with underlying cardiac disease toxic cardiac manifestations of hyperthyroidism may occur, such as cardiac pain, palpitations or cardiac arrhythmia.”So far, Acella says it has received four reports of "adverse events" for these lot numbers, possibly related to the recall.The products subject to recall are packed in 100-count bottles. Their lot numbers are M327E19-1 and M328F19-3. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Hurricans Warning has been issued on Friday for Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast due to the threat of Hurricane Isaias over the weekend.The Hurricane Warning extends from Boca Raton to the Volusia/Brevard County line in Central Florida.As of 5 p.m. Friday, the storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, and is moving northwest at 15 mph. The forecast cone has shifted farther west, with the eye of the hurricane very close to the Palm Beach County coastline.According to the National Hurricane Center, hurricane hunters are finding that Isaias is getting better organized and tropical storm conditions and heavy rains are spreading into the central Bahamas.Isaias became a Category 1 hurricane late Thursday night, and is no longer expected to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane as it approaches the Bahamas on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.On the forecast track, the center of Isaias will continue to move near or over the Southeastern Bahamas this afternoon and evening. WASHINGTON (KGTV and AP) — Washington Democrats turned down a deal Monday that would have provided protections for Dreamer immigrants in return for billion in funding for President Trump's border wall.Lawmakers have yet to agree on a .3 trillion catchall spending bill, as well as a major rail project.The bill contains victories for both parties including a Pentagon budget increase requested by Republicans, and the domestic program, infrastructure and opiod crisis funding that Democrats want.Efforts to use the measure as a vehicle to extend protections for young immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival, or DACA, program appeared likely to fail, aides said. Trump killed the Obama-era program in September, but a court decision has essentially left it in place, for now. The White House had revived the idea in recent days — offering on Sunday a 30-month extension of DACA protections in exchange for billion for Trump's border wall — but Democrats demanded protections for a broader pool of immigrants than had signed up for DACA, a request denied by GOP negotiators.There's also a continuing battle over Trump's long-promised U.S.-Mexico border wall.
