CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds gathered on Coronado Saturday morning for the 2019 Witches Tea. The event, organized by Rebecca Geiss, started in 1999 with nine women. Since its humble origin, the event has exploded in size. This year, 254 people showed up for the 21 and older event. The celebration centers around attendees dressing up as witches, dancing, and having a spooktacular time on beautiful Coronado. Photos from this year’s event show a multitude of creativity with some dressed as Glinda the Good Witch from “The Wizzard of Oz.” Other photos show some of the women embracing group costumes. Throughout the day, the women take buses to establishments throughout Coronado and San Diego. Attendees aren't told where they're going, adding an element of surprise to Witches Tea. In 2018, all the proceeds from the event went to the C4 Foundation, which provides support and resources through science-based programs to active-duty Navy SEALs and their families. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A 2-year-old boy who was found early Sunday morning following a statewide search prompted by an Amber Alert has died, a family member has confirmed.Nain Dominguez, 2, was found at around 7:18 a.m. and was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to an official with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. He was later pronounced dead despite medical intervention, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Details about where the boy was found, or how he sustained those injuries, were not immediately provided by investigators. Biridiana Dominguez, the boy's sister, said the boy "brought a lot of joy to our family." She went on to thank the community and police for their help in finding her little brother. Boy's disappearance prompts statewide searchThe search for Dominguez began at around 5:41 p.m., when deputies received a report that the boy was last seen with an older sibling near Stratmoor Hill Trailhead Park.It would take nearly four hours for Coloradans across the state to be alerted that the toddler was missing via an Amber Alert that was sent out just before 9:30 p.m.Initially, El Paso County deputies reported the boy was last seen being carried by a suspect into a large, white panel van with now windows in the back in the area near 1215 Fountain Road in Colorado Springs. But just after midnight Sunday, both El Paso County deputies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said they no longer believed the van and suspect information initially provided were related to the toddler’s disappearance. 1656

CORONADO (KGTV) - An Arizona man is recovering from a bacterial infection he says he got from swimming in the ocean off the coast of San Diego.Travis Moncur had part of his forearm removed last week after doctors discovered he had gram positive cocci. The Arizona based event coordinator says he went swimming Sunday near the Hotel Del Coronado and by Wednesday he was in an emergency room.RELATED: Tijuana steps up efforts to keep sewage out of U.S.“For the first 24 hours they didn’t know what it was because it was acting like a bug bite,” said Moncur.Travis says he had a fever, was nauseous and the area where he had a small cut was painfully sensitive to the touch.“It was pretty dire,” said Moncur, “they said had I not gotten on top of it right away it would have got into my blood system and I could have gotten an infection in my brain.”Moncur says doctors told him the variety of coliform bacterial infection they believe he is consistent with dirty water.RELATED: Imperial Beach businesses hurt by sewage & runoff related closuresThe San Diego County Health Department says there no advisories for any of the areas where Moncur was swimming and they recommend covering any cut before going in the water.Moncur’s doctor will get back results to help them potentially determine the source, but he is still worried about the possibility of others getting what he has. “We were playing on the beach with people who had children” said Moncur, “I was able to catch it because I went to the ER right away.” 1528

CINCINNATI — Ringed by neurosurgeons in sky-blue scrubs, masks and magnifying loupes, Makenzi Alley lay on a Jewish Hospital operating table and smiled. Her brain glistened pink and purple under the electrode they used to cautiously probe it; sharper implements awaiting their turn in the procedure shone nearby. At Dr. Vincent DiNapoli's signal, Alley began to speak. The team went to work.Wide-awake brain surgery might sound like a nightmare to many, but it was the only way doctors at Jewish Hospital's Brain Tumor Center could remove the tumor that had stolen Alley's sense of taste without damaging the vital tissue nearby."Of all the places to pick, it's kind of right in the spot you wouldn't want it to be," DiNapoli said, gesturing to a scan of Alley's brain in which the tumor stood out as a circular mass of solid white.Even a slight mistake could permanently rob her of her ability to produce spoken or written language — and, if she were fully anesthetized, her team might not know until she woke up."I knew he needed me to talk to do his best job, so I talked the whole time," Alley said months later, laughing. "There was never a time where I was like, ‘We need to stop,' and I started freaking out. It was very smooth. Very simple."DiNapoli's team used the electrode, her scans and her ongoing conversation as mapping tools. When she stopped talking, they knew they had touched the Broca area — the region of the brain that controls speech production — and needed to proceed carefully. The tumor they removed from Alley's brain was the size of a golf ball, she said. With it went the stutter she had developed as it pressed on her speech center; in its absence, her sense of taste returned. She was also able to return to the pastimes she loves, including playing guitar, studying and running competitively."That was actually an emotional sight to me," her mother, Traci Alley, said Thursday. She cradled her phone in her hand, displaying a picture of Alley smiling midway through a race. "She did so well. I wasn't sure I'd see her running again." 2095
