BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Bonita family has been making gift bags for children in need for eight years and the pandemic this holiday season didn't stop them from spreading joy.Usually the assemblyline forms in Diane Zoura's garage the weekend after Thanksgiving. There's lots of friends, family and food to go around. This year the pandemic pushed them outside, under a tent a week later than planned."We are more spaced out this year, we set up outside, we’re taking temperatures, we’re all wearing masks so we’re just being more safe," Zoura said. They had to delay the event because a family member was sickened with the coronavirus weeks earlier. She said everyone is okay and they wanted to make sure everyone was safe when they did come together.Sunday, they were focused not on the pandemic, but on giving the gift of love and joy, a thousand times over."We’re going to give 400 of them to Build a Miracle and they’re going to hand them out to homeless children in Mexico and then we’re going to be giving the rest to the Polinsky Children’s Center for the foster kids in San Diego." Zoura said they wanted to send more gifts than last year.In 2019, they sent 750 gifts, in 2020 they'll distribute 1,000 and their ambitious goal for 2021 is 2,000 gifts. That means smiles on the faces of 2,000 children Zoura's never met."Most of them don’t have anyone to gather with so we wanted to be that difference to give them a gift share the gift of love and bring some light into their life," she said. She hopes when people hear her story, they are motivated to give back to the community too."The children are our future and so if we can make a difference in these children’s lives we’re working on the future and making it a better place for all of us," she said. The bags are filled with puzzles, toys, winter clothing like scarves and hats.Bags will be dropped off at the Polinsky Children's Center Thursday and picked up by Build a Miracle this weekend to get to the kids in time for the holidays. If you would like to help, click here to donate to the Polinsky Children's Center, or here to donate to Build a Miracle. You can also Venmo Zoura to help fund this and next year's gifts: @Diane-Zoura. 2206

Bright lights, big cities. The lure of urban centers has lost none of its appeal in 2018, with tourists expected to make around 1.4 billion trips to cities around the world this year.UK-based market research company Euromonitor International has just released its Top 100 City Destinations 2018 report, an annual ranking of the world's most popular cities by international tourism arrivals.Once again, Hong Kong has come out on top. BARCELONA -- For adventure-seekers and travelers, the pandemic has put a damper on outdoor excursions. But for one filmmaker in Barcelona, a canceled family ski trip turned into an opportunity to bring adventure home to his living room.Philipp Klein Herrero is fanatical about skiing.“I am always skiing,” he said. “It's my passion.”So, when the pandemic lockdown forced him to cancel a long-planned family ski trip to France, the filmmaker decided to create a video for them.“I wanted to send them love from where I am and that's how the idea came about.”He taped a GoPro to his ceiling and cleared the room, bringing to life the adventure of a lifetime – on his living room floor.“It starts with me waking up on the side of the mountain in my sleeping bag and having my skis right next to me,” he said. “Once, it gets too steep to walk I switch into ice-climbing mode.”Over the next six and a half hours Klein painstakingly captured this stop-motion odyssey – one frame at a time. He used bed sheets for the side of the mountain.“And of course, nowadays the first thing you do when you reach the summit is you cheer and then take some selfies,” he said. The 57 second film has gone viral, making international headlines.“It just went absolutely crazy from there on,” he said.Klein says his only true desire was to spread a message of hope, inspiring others in challenging times. When asked what the most important thing that he wants people to take away from watching his video, he said that we all have to stay positive.“We have a tricky situation among us, and we literally don’t know how it’s going to end up, but it’s within us to make the best out of it.”He’s proving adventure can be found just about anywhere. 1724

BOCA RATON, Fla. — New developments in the investigation into a Boca Raton pet store where authorities say a dead puppy and several sick puppies were found late last year. The owner of Poochie Couture was arrested on Tuesday and is facing multiple animal cruelty charges.Marc Rosenbluth, 37, has since bonded out of jail.Last November, dozens of puppies were removed from Poochie Couture by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, and the pet store was shut down.Rosenbluth surrendered some of the dogs after Boca Raton Police and Animal Care and Control said they found a dead 3-month-old puppy, along with several other sick animals."Had we not gotten there with Boca P.D., most likely the death toll would have much higher," said Dianne Sauve, the director of Palm Beach County Animal Care and ControlSauve said closing the pet store is a victory.Records show that of the 58 dogs inside the shop, investigators found the dead puppy and six french bulldogs that were sick with multiple problems. Two of them needed intensive care.Rosenbluth's arrest report said Poochie Couture lacked prevention of injury and did not assist with ongoing veterinary care."It is a shame some animals had to die in a result of this," said Kelly Evans, who called police in November, claiming Rosenbluth and his wife were not taking care of their puppies. "I am glad he is arrested now and there is some justice for the animals."Sauve said ACC likes to tell people to always adopt and don't shop. But with six pet stores open in the county, she said people will still shop.Sauve said that asking for records is key if an animal gets sick after it's been purchased."Look at the health certificates, review the medical records," Sauve said. This article was written by Miranda Christian for WPTV. 1785

BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) — Friday marks one year since the devastating Lilac Fire tore through northern San Diego County. More than 100 families lost their homes in the fire."Everything seems different,” said Bonsall resident Marci Grihalva. “I don't know what it is, but it's almost surreal.”Staring out at the landscape, Grihalva surveys her neighborhood."I think everyone was just really surprised how fast this fire went. It was just here,” she said.Grihalva lives in the Rancho Monserate community. It’s just west of the Interstate 15 in the Bonsall area. Last year, the Lilac Fire turned her home and most of her neighborhood to ash."If I think about it, what I lost, it's almost too much,” Grihalva told 10News. “I just can't handle it. It's too hard; it's too hard.”The homes in Rancho Monserate were some of the first to go. Grihalva said she and her husband watched the destruction on television. In the end, 114 homes were destroyed, 55 more damaged, and 45 horses died.Following the fire, the County of San Diego issued a fire response report. It breaks down the sequence of events and focuses on response efforts. The report also highlights successes and offers recommendations on how to be better prepared."The county is constantly improving,” said Holly Crawford, director of the county's Office of Emergency Services. “What we do here in my office is we don't just learn lessons from our own disasters, we look at disasters that happened elsewhere.”Team 10 asked Crawford about each of the recommendations listed in the report and whether or not the county is moving forward with them. Crawford explained they’ve implemented all of them."One of the biggest things we've been engaged in since the Lilac fire is stress testing some of our major public communication and alert and warning platforms,” Crawford says. The report recommended: 1868
