"I was like, ‘well maybe there's some delay with mine.’ No big deal.”And in Ohio, Karen Melroy is also stuck in in stimulus purgatory.“I received my refund by a direct deposit,” said Melroy. “So, there's no reason I can think of why I shouldn't have received one.”All of them say they get the same message when checking on the IRS website.“I normally add a few more expletives to mine when I see it, but it's something to the effect of payment status not available,” said Melroy.It turns out they’re not alone. Those four words: "payment status not available" are exasperating countless Americans who appear otherwise eligible for payments but have not been paid and can’t get answers as to why.“The IRS obviously was very rushed and even when the government takes a year and a half to do a computer system, there are problems with it,” said Robert Probasco, director of the tax clinic at Texas A&M University.In May the IRS added 3,500 telephone representatives to help with problems, but most can only provide general information.“I found this like nine-step guide of how to get a human on the phone at the IRS. I did it twice and hit a dead end,” said Brandow.Because IRS offices remain closed due to the pandemic, the agency tells us that call center agents are working from home. That means they don’t have access to secure personal information specific to each case.“This was designed poorly obviously because it doesn't tell you which of those things happen and if it is a glitch, it doesn't tell you what kind of a glitch,” said Probasco.The IRS is doing a phased reopening at key processing sites and call centers.The IRS tells us some employees have returned to work in Kentucky, Texas and Utah. They say they will follow state and local guidelines as employees return to work in Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Michigan and by the end of June in Indiana, Ohio, California, Oregon and Puerto RicoBut if you can’t get your payment issue resolved by the end of the year, you may have to claim your unpaid stimulus assistance on next year’s tax return as a credit.“That doesn't help me today,” said Melroy.That's a sentiment many like Alexis Lopez share as they struggle to rebound financially from the pandemic.“You're left in limbo wondering, 'am I ever going to get this stimulus check that most Americans received?' The visuals are dynamic, and the casting is note-perfect.Martial arts legends Jet Li, Donnie Yen and Gong Li play significant roles, and the cinematography and choreography often recalls exaggerated, Ang Lee-style theatrics.The core of the film -- that Mulan could convincingly trick her military comrades into thinking she's a man -- falls flat. While Liu Yifei thrives with the athletic ability and emotion needed in the lead role, the makeup department did her no favors. She looks more like a supermodel than a rough-hewn male soldier. Scenes in which men assume her gender are unintentionally funny.The new "Mulan" takes a more somber and serious tone than the original, swapping out the Eddie Murphy-voiced comic relief dragon Mushu for a CGI Phoenix, and subduing most musical moments in favor of tense, overly dry brooding.It's been a long and rough wait for superfans. Originally slated for a July 24 release, the movie was bumped to August 21, before landing September 4 on Disney+ as a early access add-on. It will be free on the app December 4, and unless you're a superfan, you're best off waiting until then.At least fans will be able to be mildly disappointed in the comfort of their own homes, and be able to hit pause if they get a little drowsy.There is impressive artistry at work. The film is every bit as gorgeous and sweeping as Disney's best live-action remakes: "The Jungle Book" and "The Lion King."Add this one to the pile of disappointing live-action remakes of Disney classics, along with "Aladdin," "Dumbo," "Alice in Wonderland," "Lady and the Tramp" and "Beauty and the Beast."The movie's legacy may well be what it does for boosting Disney's app and changing the way studios sell movies to the public. CARLSBAD (KGTV) — A woman visiting Legoland in Carlsbad was stunned when she spotted someone angling their phone into her changing stall at the water park. "I saw a phone at the corner, which is under the divider of the stalls. So I called out to that person, 'Excuse me, what's that phone doing there?'" Carisma Jucaban recalled.She thought it may have been a child or just an accident, but it was not."As soon as I heard the door open, I ran out to take a look, but he was already making a turn. And I was kind of standing there like, 'What just happened?' My husband is looking at me like, What's going on?' I was like, 'Did you see that guy?'" Jucaban explained.Jucaban immediately reported the man to Legoland security and within hours they found him. Carlsbad police arrested 26-year-old Anthony Galindo of Los Angeles. "They looked through his phone and found a bunch of disturbing — they didn't really specify what it was — I don't really want to know. (KGTV) — The grandmother of the 17-year-old who's accused of stabbing Lisa Thorborg to death on a Carlsbad hiking trail in November doesn't believe her grandson could have committed the crime.Christie Hernandez said that she talked to her grandson, Haloa Beaudet, just after Tuesday's virtual court hearing where new surveillance images were revealed and the judge allowed the release of the teen's name. Images of his face have been ordered to remain withheld from the public."[He said] 'I'm strong. I'm going to be positive. You and papa [don't need to] worry. Tell everyone in the family that I'm okay and I'll be home soon," Hernandez told ABC 10News.RELATED: Judge releases name of Carlsbad teen murder suspect, new surveillance imagesOn Wednesday, the DA's Office confirmed that it filed a motion to request that the teen be tried as an adult but that it will take almost a year before a hearing is set where a judge will make the determination.The prosecution said this week that a surveillance camera captured Beaudet running barefoot on the street away from the trail a few minutes after Thorborg was believed to have been killed.Other images show him on the trail in the days after the murder. Detectives said that his DNA was found on the victim's shorts and a pair of his sandals were found near her body. His attorneys argue that he is a free spirit who often left his sandals behind and Thorborg may have picked them up, which is how his DNA got on her."He would not have done this. It's like stabbing me in the neck," added Hernandez.Hernandez said that he had been living with her and doing online schooling for the last two months after moving to San Diego from Hawaii. She described him as a kind young man who is incapable of violence. "We go to the store and he's helping little old ladies pick out which watermelons are good and which grapes are the sweetest and holding doors open. So, this just really baffles me," she stated.
