SAN DIEGO — One of San Diego's biggest restaurant chains will reopen Friday, with plans to hire up to 250 new people by summer.Each of the Brigantine's 14 restaurants will begin hosting guests at the end of the week with spaced out tables, employee temperature checks and increased hand sanitizing stations, chief executive Mike Morton said in an interview Tuesday. Morton added that tables will be spaced out, but that outdoor event space at some locations will be converted to main dining to increase capacity. "It's a hard business when the economy is at full strength and there's not this silent enemy out there," he said. "Now it's just another element to deal with."The chain includes Brigantine, Miguel's Cocina, and Ketch Tap and Grill. Morton said the organization has been able to bring back most of its 1,100 furloughed workers, though some have declined because of unemployment boosts. He cautioned that decision as short sighted, given the tight job market that will persist after the extra benefits have gone away. Meanwhile, Brigantine is advertising 134 openings on its website at locations across the county. Additionally, Morton said Brigantine plans to hire as many as 250 additional for its Portside Pier complex, which is scheduled to open in July along the Embarcadero, on the site of the former Anthony's Fish Grotto. The facility will include three restaurants, two bars and a gelato and coffee shop. "We're always looking for good people," Morton said. "There might not be a spot available today but there might be three tomorrow."Brigantine closed its chain of restaurants two days after the governor's stay-at-home order went into effect in mid March. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Cold, windy, and rainy conditions have prompted the San Diego Housing Commission to activate inclement weather shelters this New Year’s Eve. The commission activates the Inclement Weather Shelter Program when temperatures drop below 50 degrees, the chance of rain is higher than 40 percent or in the case of sustained high winds. The program is a partnership between the commission, the city of San Diego, Father Joe's and Connections Housing. The commission also funds the program. Father Joe’s Villages tells 10News they can take in an additional 170 people this New Year's Eve, including children.They will convert two dining halls into temporary shelters, filling them with cots. “When you’re out there in the rain and you get wet and then this cold air, you feel a chill in your bones, that’s what those on the streets experience,” said Deacon Jim Vargas, President and CEO of Father Joe’s Villages. SAN DIEGO – Delegates at the California Democratic Party State Convention failed to endorse any candidates for U.S. Senate, governor and attorney general, denying Dianne Feinstein endorsement in her bid to stay seated in the U.S. Senate. The indecision sent shock through the party with 54 percent of the vote going to state Senate leader Kevin de Leon and 37 percent for Feinstein."The outcome of today's endorsement vote is an astounding rejection of politics as usual, and it boosts our campaign's momentum as we all stand shoulder to shoulder against a complacent status quo," de Leon said late Saturday in a prepared statement.Still, Feinstein holds a sizable lead over de Leon in statewide polls.Meanwhile, the gubernatorial vote was split between Lt.
