SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection officials responded Monday to the arrival at San Diego’s U.S.-Mexico border of the first group of migrants from the caravan moving through Mexico.Some 85 people associated with the LGBTQ+ community are near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to journalist Jorge Nieto. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Authorities are searching for a person suspected of starting a trash can fire that scorched the side of a Normal Heights home early Thursday morning.At around 2 a.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to the 3300 block of Meade Avenue in response to a trash can on fire next to a house.Some residents told ABC 10News they heard noises at the trash cans and the saw a fire begin to ignite.Screams from residents apparently scared off a person believed to have sparked the blaze.As fire crews arrived, flames from the trash can burned the side of one house. The fire was quickly knocked down before it could engulf the entire home.ABC 10News learned one person was displaced due to the fire; no injuries were reported.A description of the person suspected of starting the fire was not immediately available.Arson investigators are involved in the fire probe. 889

In late November, Gallagher and three other SEALs were notified that a board of peers would determine whether or not they should remain SEALs, the Associated Press reported. President Donald Trump then ordered the Navy to allow Gallagher to retire as a SEAL with his rank intact. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, helps feed roughly 40 million Americans. According to the USDA, eligible recipients are guaranteed benefits through January. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is expected to make a statement this week on SNAP funding into February, according to San Diego Hunger Coalition spokesman Joseph Shumate, citing the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP).Any SNAP adjustments could also increase the burden on San Diego charities. Many Feeding San Diego beneficiaries also rely on SNAP to help their families, the organization said."For every one meal we do, the SNAP program does 12 meals," said Feeding San Diego CEO, Vince Hall. "That is a 12 to 1 ratio, so any cut to SNAP is going to have dramatic effects on charities already struggling to keep up with the demand, the unmet need for food across our communities."Hall says they are preparing for worst-case scenarios, like the shutdown continuing for weeks or months. According to CBPP, the USDA may rule that the only appropriation available for SNAP after January is the program’s billion “contingency reserve,” which was made available through the fiscal year 2018 appropriations act. But SNAP benefits currently amount to about .8 billion a month, so the billion reserve cannot fully fund February benefits.Other feeding programs, including WIC, which provides food aid and nutrition counseling for pregnant women, new mothers and children, and food distribution programs on Indian reservations, will continue on a local level, but additional federal funding won't be provided. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Court documents are giving a glimpse into the past of the 26-year-old accused of killing his parents and sister in a Logan Heights house fire.Wilber Romero is accused of starting the fire at the home on the 3100 block of Clay Street around 4:30 a.m. October 13. 44-year-old Jose Romero died at the scene while his wife and daughter, 46-year-old Nicolasa Maya-Romero and 21-year-old Iris Romero died at the hospital in the days following the blaze.The family’s 23-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son were also hospitalized. Wilber is facing several charges in the fire, including first-degree murder, arson and attempted first-degree murder. Court documents show it wasn’t the first time he allegedly targeted his family. He reportedly attacked his father with a brick and rocks and damaged his car in September of 2018. The incident prompted a police standoff that ended when police shot bean bags at Wilber and released a police dog, documents show. The documents go on to state Wilber was in a car accident when he was 6-years-old and that he has suffered from a learning disability since the crash. According to the documents, Wilber also struggled with drug addiction. 1203
