The city of Asheville, North Carolina, released "disturbing, difficult to watch" videos from nine body-worn cameras related to the beating and tasing of a man who was suspected of jaywalking, the city said.One video from an officer on the scene shows Asheville police officer Christopher Hickman wrap his arms around the man's neck from behind as they attempt to subdue him.The footage provides greater insight into the August 2017 arrest of Johnnie Jermaine Rush, the man beaten, choked and tased by an Asheville police officer who suspected him of jaywalking.Hickman, 31, was removed from patrol duty a day after the incident. "That's what happened to his left side, I punched him in the face with it about as hard as I could."A Buncombe County Superior Court Judge granted the city's petition to release the video, which was made public Monday at 2 p.m. The city asked to release the videos "in the interest of transparency," the city said on its website."This incident has created a loss of trust within the community, particularly among people of color. She adds that parents should also emphasize that smaller gatherings are still worth celebrating."(Parents should) really have their kids focus on what they can control and what is still available to them, rather than on a deficit and what they don't have," Dr. Glover said. "So shifting the perspective to, 'this is what we're grateful for having,' rather than, 'this is why we're sad.'"Doctors say it's important to recognize when children are having a hard time accepting smaller gatherings or missing family members. Children may change how they interact with others or express increased irritability or a desire to be alone. Parents might also notice changes in eating or sleeping habits.Experts say that if behavioral changes get serious enough, parents might want to consider professional help for their kids. And with a rise in telemedicine, getting help is a little easier."If a kid can Zoom in with somebody from their bedroom, laying on their bed flopped over, they might feel a lot more comfortable," Dr. Glover said. The country’s cybersecurity agency says the hacking campaign discovered earlier this month was “impacting” local governments, in addition to federal and state entities and businesses.In a statement this week, CISA said they are still tracking the “significant cyber incident impacting enterprise networks across federal, state, and local governments, as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations.”However, the agency did not give specific examples or further details like how many state and local governments were impacted. The hackers were able to get access to government and business networks through the IT management company SolarWinds’s Orion software supply chain, which are used by government and private businesses. The hack was discovered this month, however officials believe it has been going on for several months.CISA says just because we are aware of the hack doesn’t mean the threat is gone. They warn the hackers have “the resources, patience, and expertise to gain access to and privileges over highly sensitive information if left unchecked. CISA urges organizations to prioritize measures to identify and address this threat.”Last week, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said the hack posed a “grave threat” to security U.S. government agencies, critical infrastructure entities and private groups.CISA also said at the time the SolarWinds Orion vulnerability was not the only way that hackers were able to get into government agencies, private companies and critical infrastructures over the last several months."CISA has determined that this threat poses a grave risk to the Federal Government and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations," the alert issued by the agency said.
