VISTA (CNS) - A man has been detained in connection with the death of a woman at a home in Vista, a sheriff's lieutenant said today.Deputies dispatched at 5:55 p.m. Saturday to a home at 475 1/2 Rancho Vista Road, in response to a reported shooting, found a woman suffering from severe injuries, said Lt. Michael Blevins of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. Saturday, he said.The sheriff's Homicide Unit asked anyone with any information regarding the incident to call them at (858) 285-6330. 600

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Vista Unified School District confirmed that a student at one of its high schools tested positive for COVID-19.According to the district, a positive case in a student was reported at Mission Vista High School on Tuesday, resulting in about 130 students in the four classes the positive student attended to be placed into a 14-day quarantine. Those students will pivot to virtual learning.Staff members involved in these classes or who may have come into contact with the student were also quarantined, the district said."The student did not come into close contact with every student; however, since this is our first incident, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution," a district release stated.District officials said schools will reopen at normal capacity on Friday.The positive test comes just two days after Vista Unified reopened its schools for in-person instruction.Part of the reopening plan, known as “Vista Classic,” includes attempts to have social distancing as much as possible. (KGTV) - A dog owner has a warning for other pet owners after her 5-year-old English Bulldog died during a dental cleaning at a Vista pet hospital."I just thought it was a routine visit," said Kristine Ortiz.Ortiz's nightmare began two Tuesdays ago at Banfield Pet Hospital in Vista, after she brought Chesty in for a dental cleaning. Chesty is her emotional support dog. Ortiz, a medically retired Marine, lives with a rare and debilitating bone disease. Ortiz got the call just before 3 in the afternoon."Just in shock. I remember screaming ... I've had surgery six times since I got my dog, and she's been with me the whole time, so it was very emotional," said Ortiz. Chesty, a healthy dog, had been put under during two previous cleanings and never had any issues. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention.
