SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Qualcomm employees reporting Wednesday the company is laying off workers in San Diego.The San Diego Workforce Partnership confirmed that 1,231 workers will be laid off by June 19 from the company's Sorrento Valley headquarters.Three employees, one reached in person the other two by phone, tell 10News they believe many more will be let go at other locations, including San Jose, Santa Clara, New Jersey and in Europe. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Oak Valley Middle School 7th Grader, Madhumita Narayan, says she spends up to 2 hours per day practicing for the upcoming County-Wide Spelling Bee.Her secret? And she seemed to be very confident up there."Narayan says her love of spelling came from a childhood spent reading and writing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. On the gym's Facebook page, it appears the owner posted in June that her father and brother were working on much of the construction of the gym. He didn't want his name used but said his son sustained injuries to his foot and his wife has a broken foot. There's no word on when she'll be released.The father says he was at the parkour gym a few days before the incident and told us the facility appeared like it didn't meet proper safety standards.Vault PK also operates a facility in Torrance and told Team 10 investigator Jennifer Kastner the gym is closed for inspections. 1719
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people have tested positive at the San Diego Convention Center, which has been serving as a shelter for San Diego's homeless since April.Regular testing has been conducted at the Convention Center since the shelter opened, but there was a rise in positive cases starting with tests administered on Dec. 3. Since then, there have been 120 positive cases detected. According to city officials, 115 are clients and five are staff members.Prior to Dec. 3, the city says there had been 27 positive cases since April.Dr. Eric McDonald, medical director of the County Health and Human Services Agency's Epidemiology and Immunization Branch, released the following statement: 699
