VISTA, Calif. (KGTV)- New details are emerging about a weekend murder investigation at a house in Vista. Neighbors tell 10News that a husband was arrested for shooting his wife and the two had a troubled history. A suspect in this case was arrested Saturday night by members of the San Diego Sheriff's Homicide Unit. Deputies report that he has been identified as fifty-seven-year-old Andrew Thomas Smith of Vista and he has been booked for murder at the Vista Detention Facility. He is being held without bail. The victim's family has been notified of her death. Deputies report that she has been positively identified as Jean Moore Smith, a fifty-nine-year-old resident of Vista and she was Andrew’s wife. He describes years of verbal abuse that neighbors say the wife directed at her husband and their son. “I would just hear her yelling. She was putting them down, degrading them [and] calling them idiots,” adds Margulies. Neighbors say the adult son may have developmental challenges. Minster saw him just after it all went down. “He had some marks on his face. Cynthia Santiago and the first Latina filling the role.“I'm excited and nervous, and excited-and-nervous is like a constant continuation,” Santiago said.She has been on the force for 10 years and said she joined the police department because she wanted to give back and help her community. She said she also feels some weight on her shoulders."I'm the first one stepping into this role, but I think that as a sergeant,” Santiago explained, “I think my career as a police officer and as a detective shows the type of person I am."She has experience in the patrol unit, domestic violence unit and as a detective."You know, just a regular person - I'm a mom, I'm a daughter and a police officer,” she said. “I don't want to just be considered just the 'Latina police officer.' I have plenty of extracurricular activities that I do outside of work with my family."Santiago took on special projects and efforts such as building a relationship between the department and the growing local Latino community. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Vista Thursday on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a north San Diego County campus, Oceanside Police said Friday. The Mission Vista High School student allegedly made the threat on Snapchat, posting “Don’t go to school tomorrow because the cleansing will commence,” according to investigators. Other students saw the post and reported it to school officials, who contacted police. The Vista Unified School District sent an automated message to parents to notify them about the threat. "In this situation the systems we have in place worked. A student saw something and said something. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about school safety, and encourage them to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior or information they may have that jeopardizes their safety and that of others," said Lisa Contreras, VUSD Director of Communications.Contreras told 10News that the alleged threat did not target a specific campus or individual.
