BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China has called for the EU to recognize its market economy status soon, said Yao Jian, spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) here Friday.     China's Commerce Minister Chen Deming will attend the 11th China-EU Summit in Prague in the Czech Republic next week, Yao said.     The summit will address China's desire to be recognized as full market economy by the EU soon, the limitation on high-tech exports to China from the EU and bilateral economic cooperation, Yao said.     China need not be recognized by any country in terms of market economy as a concept, but market economy status is a technicality that will help China receive fair treatment in anti-dumping investigations, Yao said.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares continued Tuesday's rising momentum to hit a new high with Shanghai Composite Index closing at 3,188.55 on Wednesday, setting the highest close since June 2008 as coal, nonferrous metal and auto shares bolstered the rise.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.38 percent, or 43.39 points, to 3,188.55.     The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.68 percent, or 88.19 points, to 13,079.26. Chang'an Auto rose 8.67 percent to 11.15 yuan, and Guizhou Tyre advanced 6.41 percent to 13.29 yuan.     Steel shares posted a widespread gain on the anticipation of increased demand from automobile, manufacturing and construction industries. L'AQUILA, Italy, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Wednesday called for more cooperation among the five leading developing countries (G5) to address international challenges.     Dai listed four aspects for further cooperation and coordination among the G5 when he, on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao, addressed the leaders' meeting of China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico on Wednesday afternoon in the earthquake-stricken Italian city of L'Aquila.     According to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation, Dai said the G5 should join hands to cope with the international financial crisis.     Dai proposed that the G5 countries make join efforts to enhance the regulation of global financial system.     he urged the G5 countries to actively address the challenges of climate change and cooperate on addressing non-traditional security threats.     The Chinese state councilor also reiterated the importance of the unity of the G5, calling for continuing cooperation on a wide range of global issues.

BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Thursday morning presided over a top-level meeting discussing how to deal with any possible H1N1 influenza epidemic, Health Minister Chen Zhu said at a news briefing.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called together other members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau to discuss the specific issue, which was triggered by the spread of a new strain of H1N1 virus in North America and other regions.     Hu and other top leaders heard briefings of the country's prevention and preparation for possible epidemic in China, Chen said, adding that the top meeting delayed the scheduled press conference to the afternoon.Chinese Health Minister Chen Zhu attends a press conference held by the State Council Information Office of China in Beijing on April 30, 2009.
