For many San Diegans, a lack of insurance means they don't see a dentist for years or even decades. “I’ve seen people in my practice in the private area that haven’t been to the dentist in 20 to 40 years," said Dr. Irvin Silverstein, director of the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic Project.The student-run clinic has been working to fill the gap for low-income patients in San Diego for 20 years. “The biggest thing it has done is help meet the need in San Diego for a lot of underserved people. People think that underserved means homelessness or out on the streets, no. We see a lot of working poor," said Silverstein. He says the American Dental Association (ADA) is acknowledging dentistry should be a benefit in Medicare; to at least get teeth cleaned twice a year and examined.Medicaid does provide some dental coverage, but there are limitations, and only 20 percent of dentists nationwide accept it, according to the Center for Healthcare Strategies, Inc. Dr. Silverstein says he often sees parents getting care for their children while neglecting their own. “They’ll put off going to the dentist, and by the time they realize they have a problem, it’s so expensive they don’t know what to do. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 0,000 went missing from New Hope Friendship Baptist Church in 2008 and 2010, according to new Sheriff’s Department investigation report Friday.The investigation was an Internal Affairs probe into Lt. Devera Scott. Scott was also the treasurer for New Hope Friendship Baptist Church during the time the money went missing.The report claims Scott admitted to church officials she took the money. However, the church told investigators they did not want to press charges as Scott had promised the church she would it pay it all back through monthly payments, and a portion of her retirement.The church also told investigators they were in the business of forgiveness and did not want to ruin Scott’s career, according to the documents.Investigators also learned that Scott made the church a beneficiary to a 0,000 life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy.The internal investigation became public Friday, following the ruling of a San Diego judge. The decision comes after local media, including 10News, sued to keep police unions from blocking departments from releasing records related to officer misconduct.The San Diego Sheriff's Department was not part of the suit and has been releasing cases pursuant to SB1421, according to sheriff's department Lt. Karen Stubkjaer.Scott retired from the sheriff’s department on March 22, 2013, before the investigation into the missing church money was complete according to the documents. No charges were ever made against Scott.Other court filings suggest Scott might have been facing financial problems at the time.10News reached out to the church for comment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – More drive-in entertainment is coming to Escondido’s Westfield North County mall as summer comes to a close.In August, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (CCAE) hosted several drive-in live concerts at the former Nordstrom parking lot at the mall on 272 E Via Rancho Parkway.From September through November, the same mall parking lot will be the site for weekly drive-in movie screenings. Spaces for more than 250 vehicles will be made available and spaced apart to keep moviegoers safely distanced.Doors for the screenings will open at 6:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested two people following a pursuit through San Carlos Friday night.Officers say they responded to reports of gunshots near the San Carlos Recreation Center around 9:53 p.m. They said they tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle, but it took off. A five-minute pursuit took place before the suspect’s car crashed near the Jackson and Golfcrest Drives.The suspects rushed out of the vehicle, but one was caught after surrendering at a nearby taco shop.  The other one ran into a nearby housing complex. That suspect surrendered after about a three-minute standoff.Police say they found guns in the car. The suspect's names have not yet been released.  713
