It’s week one of pro football, during the second game of a doubleheader Monday night and fans are packed in at Society Sports and Spirits in Denver.Despite the hometown team being three point underdogs, many people hope they just cover the spread.“What we’ve known for a long time is Americans like to bet on sport,” said Casey Clark of the American Gaming Association.Clark says more than 33 million Americans will bet on professional football this year. After a recent Supreme Court ruling, gambling on games will be a lot easier.Sports betting is now legal in 18 states plus Washington, D.C.Clark says four other states have passed bills legalizing sports betting and he expects more to follow suit for financial reasons.“About 1 million has been generated in tax revenue across those states in that short amount of time,” he said. “So, you’ve seen significant uptick in opportunity for states and counties and local jurisdiction.”One state that’s seeing immediate pay off after legalizing sports betting in May, is Colorado.“Colorado has a 10 percent tax on the wins,” said Dan Hartman, director of the Colorado Division of Gaming. INDIANAPOLIS -- More than a dozen protesters were arrested Monday afternoon after they blocked a busy downtown Indianapolis street during rush hour. The group was demonstrating as part of the "Poor People's Campaign" and started at Monument Circle before making their way to the an area outside of the Statehouse. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the scene after reports of about 50 people blocking the road. Responding officers tried to talk to the protesters and gave them multiple warnings that if they did not leave the street they would be arrested. Police say they spoke to the protesters individually and tried to get them to move, but after being left with no alternative they took five women and nine men into custody. All 14 were arrested for obstruction of traffic. The group claims they were protesting against poverty, racism and other important issues.  925

INDIANAPOLIS — A part-time trainer at Lutheran High School in Indianapolis says she was told she is no longer welcome there because she is gay.Krystal Brazel had worked at Lutheran High School as a game-only athletic trainer for the past five years. But in February, Brazel was told she would no longer be allowed to work, coach, or volunteer at the school because of her sexual orientation."I think they really decided to make an example of me," Brazel said. "It breaks my heart. I know what I poured into that school."When Brazel started as the athletic trainer at Lutheran High School she was diagnosing injuries on a folding table in the hallway. She started collecting donations because she said the student-athletes deserved more. Eventually, she helped create an athletic training room."I remember going to school thinking I don't ever want to be a high school athletic trainer. That's why I got my masters," Brazel said. "Life happened. And I started at Lutheran just helping out and I realized this is really God's calling for me is to have an impact on these people's lives and maybe be their first real gay Christian that they had an interaction with."In February, Brazel was called into a meeting with the athletic director and head of school and asked to read a handbook that she said stated homosexuality is a sin. She was then asked to sign saying she could follow it, which she couldn't.Brazel is engaged to be married on July 18 to her fiance, Samantha. She was ultimately told she could no longer coach the softball team she just helped lead to a state title in 2019.In June, Franciscan Health and Lutheran High School could not come to an agreement allowing her to continue as the athletic trainer either. Brazel is now sharing her story, pushing for change for the future."I still love them," Brazel said.
