WASHINGTON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and U.S. President George W. Bush met at the White House on Tuesday, agreeing to push forward with the constructive and cooperative relations between the two countries.     During the meeting, Yang hailed the great development that two countries have achieved in the past seven years in enhancing China-U.S. relations, which he said also contributed to the peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world.     He noted that Chinese President Hu Jintao and President Bush have set the direction for the future development of bilateral relations during their meeting held at the sidelines of the Hokkaido G8 summit in Japan earlier this month.     China is willing to work with the United States to follow the direction and push forward with the constructive and cooperative relations between the two countries, Yang added.     For his part, Bush told the visiting Chinese top diplomat that he is glad to see China-U.S. relations developing on a favorable momentum that the United States is committing to maintaining, and he also appreciates a good working relationship built with Chinese President Hu Jintao.     On the coming Olympic games in Beijing, Yang expressed his welcome to Bush, who is set to attend the opening ceremony, and wished American athletes excellent performance in the competitions.     Bush said, in return, that he looks forward to visiting China to attend the Olympic games' opening ceremony.     On the issues of human rights and religion, Yang told the U.S. president that China would like to continue to exchange its views with the United States on basis of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's domestic affairs, as a way to promote mutual understanding.     He also noted at the meeting that the WTO's Doha Round trade negotiations are at a critical moment, and its success would help promote world economy growth, which is in the common interest of China, the United States and the international community.     China hopes that all sides can work together to push forward with the negotiations and achieve a comprehensive and balanced result, he added.     Yang also met with Stephen Hadley, assistant to the president for national security affairs.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday urged all the members of the Communist Party of China(CPC) to put people's interests first and learn the bitter lessons from the latest security incidents.     Addressing the opening ceremony of a seminar for the country's ministerial-level leaders in Beijing, Hu, also the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said that the major accidents on work and food safety which occurred in some places of the country this year had incurred severe losses of people's lives and property.     These accidents had indicated that some leaders lacked a sense of responsibility and had a loose governance, he said.     These accidents also showed some of the leaders paid no attention to people's problems and complaints and were insensitiveto the problems which threats people's life security, said Hu.     He urged all the leaders to fully understand the serious consequences of the accidents and learn the bitter lessons from the accidents.     Those accidents reminded us once again that only by solving the problems emerged from the Party leaders ... and putting people's interests first, could the Party better lead the people towards the building of a well-off society, Hu said.     The President also urged more efforts from the leaders to realize and safeguard the fundamental interests of the people.     Leaders should strive hard to do practical and good things for the people and ensure that people benefits from the country's developing economy, he noted.     More efforts should be made to mobilize people to be involved in the cause of the country's scientific development, and leaders should collect people's ideas and listen to their opinions in the process, he said.

BEIJING, April 2 -- China Everbright Bank, Everbright Group's banking unit, will go public in Shanghai in July or August, Everbright Group said Tuesday.     The bank will issue more than 820 million A shares, accounting for 10 percent of its enlarged share capital, said Everbright Group, a State-owned financial conglomerate.    The bank may float shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange if its Shanghai IPO is successfully completed before the 2008 Olympic Games.     "But the bank has no timetable for a Hong Kong listing yet," said its vice-president Xie Zhichun. "And the Shanghai listing plan will be further discussed by and is subject to approval from the board and shareholders."     Xie added: "The board may enlarge the A-share issue further to more than 10 percent of the enlarged share capital as we don't know whether we can realize a Hong Kong listing or not, but we expect to finish the Shanghai listing before the Olympic Games."     The bank has postponed inviting strategic investors as concerns are rising that the subprime crisis will worsen the finances of financial institutions, the bank said.     "We will restart the work after the strategic investors release their third-quarter report," said Li Jie, another vice-president of the bank.     The bank is a target for foreign investors given its low share price and large scale. It said earlier it will reserve a 20 percent stake for foreign strategic investors and would like to pick investors that can hold the bank's stakes for a long time.     The bank disclosed that Industrial Bank from France showed interest to invest in it, but the French banking scandal hindered talks.     It will restart inviting strategic investors after its Shanghai listing, the bank said.     The bank is 24.16-percent-owned by China Everbright Group and 21.4-percent-owned by Hong Kong-listed China Everbright Ltd.

He or she should be fair-minded and above all, love this country, said Wen during his visit to the China University of Political Science and Law on China's Youth Day.     During his trip, Wen first went to the first floor of the university's library, which boasts the country's largest collection of modern law books. CHENGDU, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called the past 110 days since the May 12 quake "shocking and touching" when speaking to journalists in southwest China's quake-hit Sichuan Province on Tuesday.     "The past 110 days were days that shocked our minds, and also days that touched our hearts," said Wen. "It's not a long time, but what we did, as witnessed by people all over the world, will go down in history." We made the utmost efforts to save people's lives even if there was a slightest hope, and we never gave up," Wen recalled at an improvisatori press conference in Yingxiu Town, the epicenter of the May 12 quake.     About 84,000 people were rescued out of debris after the quake, according to Wen.     The 8.0-magnitude earthquake killed more than 69,000 people in Sichuan and neighboring provinces and left nearly 18,000 missing.     According to the quake relief headquarters under the State Council, now people in the quake zone had no problem in eating, drinking among other life necessities. No major epidemics were reported and industry and agriculture basically resumed.     The nation also demonstrated a kind of great spirit in the quake rescue and relief efforts and gained plenty of precious experiences in coping with emergencies, Wen said. "These will be more everlasting in the quake zone and in our hearts."     Citing soldiers rescuing life around the clock, volunteers taking care of survivors and local people helping each other, Wen expressed his appreciation for all the merits demonstrated on the rescuers and survivors.     Wen said the rebuilding of houses and infrastructures remained the most urgent and difficult task for relief work, citing that it took more than 100 days to fully repair the trunk road linking quake-hit Dujiangyan and Wenchuan and it required no less to keep it open as aftershocks continued to trouble the areas.     According to Wen, in October a nationwide campaign will be launched on donating clothes and quilts to the quake zone to help people there spend winter "safe and sound".     He vowed the central government would continue the relief work as best as it can along with local governments and residents.
