LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Chris Evans is using his recent exposure to help get out the vote. The actor’s media attention isn’t for a film role though. No, the “Captain America” star literally exposed himself to fans on social media over the weekend. While attempting to post a video on Instagram on Saturday, Evans accidentally posted an untrimmed clip that showed his camera roll and what appeared to be a photo of an erect penis.Evans, who has 6.2 million followers, quickly took the video down, but not before people saved it and the clip spread across the internet, inspiring many memes and jokes.Evans was relatively silent on the matter until Monday, when he seemed to admit to the mistake in a cheeky way.“Now that I have your attention,” he wrote. “VOTE Nov 3rd!!!”Now that I have your attention?????♂??????♂?....VOTE Nov 3rd!!!— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) September 15, 2020 Before that, Evans’ brother, Scott, poked fun at his sibling on Twitter.“Was off social media for the day yesterday. So. What’d I miss?” he wrote. Was off social media for the day yesterday.So.What’d I miss?— Scott Evans (@thescottevans) September 13, 2020 All joking aside, the U.S. is 49 days away from its general election, as of Tuesday. Do as Evans says and click here to learn how to register to vote. 1291

Long lines at the polls, machines not working, and incorrect voter registration information are all painful realities for thousands of voters on primary day. Some say they’re worried these issues may keep voices from being heard in this year’s presidential election.“Voter suppression is a real thing,” said Tocarro Combs, a Georgia voter who experienced issues with her registration. For thousands of voters, especially across Georgia, casting a ballot can seem more like a fight than a right.“It’s something that we’re used to, but I don’t ever want us to get numb to it,” said Combs. “I want to feel the hurt. I want to feel the pain, because I never want the feeling of voter suppression to go unheard or dismissed."For Combs, her battle to vote started when she checked her registration before election day. “I was listed as a male in Fulton County at my previous address,” she explained. In the midst of trying to fix that error, she said the county elections office told her, “an absentee ballot was processed out of that office on my behalf."But she did not cast that ballot. Combs spent hours emailing and calling the Secretary of State and Fulton County Elections Department to fix her registration. She was never able to find out who filed that absentee ballot under her name. Her registration is still pending.“It is still unresolved today,” she said. “It’s been very heartbreaking, and I get emotional when I talk about it. It’s important to me,” said Combs. “Especially as an African-American woman, there have been so many sacrifices for me to have that right.”Come election day, when she made it to the polls, she was given a provisional ballot with no option to vote for president. The poll worker showed her the Republican and Independent ballot, and both had options to vote for the president.“I went up and voted with a Democratic ballot that wasn’t complete,” said Combs. The problems continued at another precinct in the same county for Terence Rushin. It took him seven hours and 45 minutes to vote.“I watched an entire season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I still hadn’t made it to the front of the line,” he said. These two say their stories are, unfortunately, all too common. “You have to go to war for your voice, and it shouldn’t be that way,” she said.Georgia’s policy requiring voter registrations to exactly match database information has led to mass voting registration purges. This years-long problem added to by the new voting machines in 2020.The Coalition for Good Governance, a nonprofit that analyzes elections, warned the state that a new system in 2020 was “reckless” and could disproportionately impact minority voters.“In the state of Georgia, we have a problem with amplified voices. We have a problem with systematic racism. We have a problem with voter oppression. Please do not close your eyes and think, "not your state, not your problem,'” said Combs. “If we turn a blind eye here, your state could be next.”Since 2012, more than one million voters have been purged from Georgia’s registration database for being inactive or having imperfectly matched information. There is now a Fulton County Elections task force working to examine this past primary election and make adjustments for the upcoming primary and presidential elections. It will focus on areas regarding facilities, equipment, and absentee ballots. 3363

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - As COVID-19 cases surge, Covered California is urging uninsured residents to sign up for coverage by this Wednesday's deadline."Covered California is a critical safety net to help people get quality health care coverage during the surging pandemic and ongoing recession," said Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee. "With our first enrollment deadline coming up this week, we want to encourage anyone who needs coverage to check out their options and sign up so they can start the New Year with protection and peace of mind."Californians who want their coverage to start on Jan. 1 must sign up by Dec. 30, a deadline that was extended in response to the pandemic. However, the open enrollment period runs through Jan. 31. In either case, consumers will need to pay their first bill when enrolling.More than 1.2 million California residents are uninsured despite being eligible for financial help from Covered California or low-cost or no-cost coverage through Medi-Cal, according to Covered California."Most of the people who are uninsured either do not know they are eligible for financial assistance, or they have not checked recently to see how affordable quality coverage can be," Lee said. "No one should wait to sign up, and we are extending the deadline through Dec. 30 to give all of us more time to spread the word and make sure our family and friends have health insurance during this pandemic."Roughly nine out of 10 consumers who enroll through the Covered California marketplace receive either federal tax credits, state subsidies or both, helping to make health care more affordable. California subsidies benefit nearly 600,000 residents, including thousands who had previously been ineligible for financial help because they exceeded federal income limits.Of those eligible for subsidies, more than half are believed to be Latino, a group that has been disproportionately hard-hit by the pandemic. The average consumer receiving financial help with health insurance paid an average of 7 per month for coverage, with federal and state assistance reducing their costs by 4, according to Covered California.Covered California recently mailed masks to 1.5 million enrollees, and Lee urged every resident to use face coverings."Getting covered with a mask will help protect Californians and their families and friends; getting covered with a health plan will help protect people if they get sick," he said. "Covered California helps you get access to some of the best doctors and health care facilities in the country and provides peace of mind during these challenging times where there is so much uncertainty."The state individual mandate penalty will also return for 2021. Consumers who can afford health care coverage, but choose to go without, could pay a penalty when they file their state taxes in 2022. The penalty, administered by California's Franchise Tax Board, could be as much as ,250 for a family of four.To learn more about coverage options or compare rates, visit www.coveredca.com. 3054

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A storm system swollen with moisture from an atmospheric river will bring rain to Southern California Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood watch for all burn areas in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Across Ventura and Los Angeles counties, the heaviest rainfall is expected late Tuesday and Wednesday morning, affecting the Thomas, Hill, Woolsey, Stone, South, Creek and La Tuna burn scars, according to the NWS. Peak rainfall rates are expected to range between a half-inch and 0.80 inches per hour. There is the potential for isolated thunderstorms, which could produce higher hourly rates, forecasters said. Los Angeles County officials warned residents in the Woolsey Fire burn area -- where even small amounts of rain may cause significant mud and debris flows -- to prepare for the possibility of evacuations, road closures and power outages. Residents were urged to identify two exit routes, make plans for pets and family members with special needs and pack an emergency kit with extra medication, important documents and warm clothing. Additional sheriff's deputies, firefighters and public works personnel will be on patrol in the area through Thursday morning, according to the county.
