Just because you're bankrupt doesn't mean you don't need a hand during the holiday season.Toys R Us, which filed for bankruptcy on Monday night, announced Thursday that it is looking to fill at least 13,000 positions nationwide for the upcoming holiday season.The toy retailer didn't give the total number of seasonal workers it plans to hire, but said it is looking for 3,800 workers in the New York area, 2,400 in greater Los Angeles as well as 2,400 at a warehouse in Groveport, Ohio that is run by DHL. It is also looking for about 1,000 workers each in the Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston markets as well as 900 work at home call center employees.Hiring workers just for the holidays will be harder for retailers this year since unemployment at at 4.4%, near a 16-year low. There are currently a record number of unfilled job openings according to Labor Department statistics. To fill the jobs in the current environment, Toys R Us has sweetened its pay package to offer employees weekend pay rates on peak holiday shopping days, as well as additional employee discounts said spokesman Joseph Contrino.Earlier this week Walmart, the nation's largest private sector employer, said that instead of hiring seasonal employees this year it will give?its existing part-time employees more hours.Toys R Us has nearly 1,000 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores across the United States and Canada, and filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When a Florida woman could no longer visit her husband with Alzheimer’s because of the state’s rules against visiting assisted living facilities, the couple was devastated.Like other facilities, Rosecastle at Deerwood in Jacksonville closed its doors to visitors on March 11 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 to vulnerable patients.After the closure, Mary Daniel says she tried to communicate with her husband, Steve, in several different ways, like speaking over FaceTime, but none worked out.“My husband is not vocal. He talks a lot, but you can’t understand anything that he says, so the FaceTimes were extremely difficult. There is no exchange of conversation,” she said. “It was really a struggle to have any sort of connection with him.”Mary says they also tried to visit at Steve’s window on two different occasions, but her husband cried both times.“The last one was on Father’s Day,” she said. “I had to make the difficult decision not to do it anymore. I felt that it was really, really hard on him, that he almost did better without seeing me, so there wasn’t that realization that I wasn’t with him.”Although Mary says she understands that restrictions are in place to help protect patients from coronavirus, she’s very concerned about the impact of isolation, especially regarding those with memory issues.“Without that connection, their brains just wither away,” said Mary. “They need that stimulation of the brain to keep it alive. And that’s what’s happening in these memory care centers. We have separated them, because we want to save them, but this isolation is absolutely going to kill them.”Desperate for a solution, Mary asked her husband’s facility if there were any other ways she could visit in person and, three weeks ago, they ended up offering her a job as a part-time dishwasher. She jumped at the opportunity and began training.“OK then, a dishwasher it is. And I took the job.” she said.Mary says she’s not just there “for fluff.” She does the hard work of doing the dishes, mopping the floor, cleaning the grill and taking the garbage out. It’s all worth it though, because after 114 days, she reunited with her husband.“It’s 100% the real deal, but it’s so worth it,” she said. “Those two days, I’m able to go in and be with him. That’s the part that is so incredibly priceless.”Mary says she visits for a few hours, during which she and Steve fall back into their same routine of watching TV together before they get Steve ready for bed.Meanwhile, Mary has also started a Facebook group where she and others discuss what different states are doing to better care for people in assisted living facilities. It’s called Caregivers for Compromise.“I really wanted to put something together where everyone had a centralized place to go and then we can take it from there,” said Mary. “We’re investigating what’s going on in other states. We’re putting together position papers that we want to present to Gov. JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KMGH) -- Police in Colorado say a couple accused of using stolen credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges had no problem bringing two young kids along."People using their children to shoplift, it's not something we see a lot of, but it's always very disappointing," said Mark Techmeyer, a spokesperson with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.Deputies said the unidentified couple stole a purse from a woman's car that was unlocked in the parking lot at Fairmont Elementary School in Lakewood. It happened on Sept. 15 around 3:30 p.m. local time.Within minutes of stealing the purse, investigators said the suspects began using the victim's credit cards."It happens very fast because they know the cards get canceled really quick," Techmeyer said.Deputies said the couple used the stolen cards to go on a three-day spending spree, fraudulently buying liquor, clothes, electronics, gas and food.Surveillance photos from a Kohl's store in Arvada showed the couple's two young kids with them as they checked out. In one of the photos, one of the kids is holding a shopping bag."It's a deplorable act," Techmeyer said.The duo with kids in tow then hit Mile High Wine Cellars, a liquor store next door.Owner Mark Crowder said their receipt for charges included Angry Orchard Cider, Ciroc Vodka, and expensive Cognac."She reported it stolen and then the charges continued," Techmeyer explained.Investigators said an error with the bank allowed the couple to keep using the stolen cards over three days, racking up nearly ,000 in fraudulent charges.Police are now hoping someone recognizes the couple in the surveillance photos."If there are any other charges that may surround having the children with them while they committed these acts is yet to be determined," Techmeyer said. 1872

The basic test kit is listed for 9.99, while a kit with video observation is 9.99.The KSHB I-team reached out to Costco for more information about the products. However, the company's corporate communications team was unwilling to respond to any questions, adding that it is not staffed to do so."As always our focus is to have merchandise available for our members at low warehouse prices," a spokesman wrote in an email.According to the Costco website, the kits are administered by Azova, which is a telemedicine platform.A fact sheet for patients found on the Azova website shows the test used is the P23 Labs TaqPath SARS CoV-2 Assay.The test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. However, like many tests, it has received emergency use authorization from the agency.That means the makers of the test need to continually submit data to the FDA, which will evaluate the information and study the accuracy of diagnoses.Azova claims 98% of positive tests and 99% of negative test results are accurate."Saliva testing can be very accurate. It is probably chosen (for at-home testing) because the chance of having user error is much less than say a nasal swab," Dr. Dana Hawkinson of the University of Kansas Health System said.A customer who purchases a kit from Costco must complete a health assessment online with Azova and register for a lab order and test kit.The actual kit should come the next day, but results won't arrive for one to three days after the lab receives the sample.The kit with video observation, however, promises results in 24-48 hours."If that's the only thing that you're using for diagnosis and you have symptoms, you need to be isolated in your home until those results come back," Hawkinson added.In his opinion, it's not the most efficient way to get tested once the shipping time and wait for results are factored into the equation.However, Hawkinson believes we may see more options like this in the future."The technology is out there. It is progressing quickly," he said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Last week, a Kansas City couple’s special day took a horrifying turn when the groom-to-be accidentally dropped the ring he was in the process of proposing with into the water beneath the picturesque bridge he and his bride-to-be were on.Seth Dixon and Ruth Salas’ friends got into the pond at Loose Park to find the lost gem, but their search was unsuccessful.Giving up hope of finding the wedding ring, the couple searched for a way to replace it. A friend started a GoFundMe page after video of the incident went viral, and the couple was eventually invited onto 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' for a do-over, complete with a custom-built set made to look like Loose Park and a brand new ring.Little did they know, hundreds of miles away, back home in Kansas City, a complete stranger had taken it upon himself to find their precious lost treasure.“I wanted to make sure they got it back before somebody else found it and had the opportunity to not give it back,” Michael Long said.Long lives in Springfield, Missouri, and made the 170-mile trek to Loose Park three different times to make sure Dixon and Salas got their ring back.He said he was scrolling through Facebook one day when he came across the viral video. Knowing he had the ability to find the ring, he went to search the water.Long dove for the first time on Thursday. He searched using only a metal detector and no scuba gear, bobbing up for air and back down to the pond floor for an hour and a half before calling it quits for the night. But he didn't give up.Long came back on Saturday, and this time searched for three hours until he finally pulled the diamond from the pond.Long searched the pond at Loose Park to make sure Dixon and Salas got their ring back.Long said he contacted a friend of the couple about 20 minutes after his discovery and made arrangements to get the ring back to Dixon and Salas as soon as possible.The couple finally got their ring back on Tuesday, thanks to Long.He said he felt compelled to help in the situation even though he didn’t know those involved personally because he wanted everyone to know that there are still good people out in the world.He also said he wanted there to be peace of mind that the couple got their ring back rather than someone stealing it or it remaining lost.Long’s other finds from his dives?
