That is at least 40% of all U.S. coronavirus deaths.The White House put in new measures recently to better protect residents.“The numbers are continuing to rise. We're just beginning to get some of the numbers out of some of the states and so this is a real outrage,” said Bill Sweeney, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at AARP. “It didn't have to be this way, and this is a national disgrace.”AARP says required virus case data from facilities is happening too late. They're about a week behind and testing isn't consistent.Some facilities are still having issues with PPE, including training staff to wear it properly.Both Republicans and Democrats want to give more help to nursing homes in the next relief bill.AARP is concerned about the lack of inspections and oversight. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A copy of a school quiz entitled "Does Nikolas Cruz Deserve to Die?" recently gained a lot of attention on social media.The quiz was meant to be an assignment on the death penalty. School officials say it was distributed to students at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs, Florida last week. The high school is just a few miles away from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where Cruz shot and killed 17 students and staff earlier this year.Stoneman Douglas parents like Cindy Levine are furious."These people lost their children, for crying out loud," Levine said. "And my son could have been one of them."The outrage spilled onto social media. Stoneman Douglas survivor and student activist Cameron Kasky, quoted in the quiz, tweeted "I cannot begin to express how pathetic I find this." School board critic Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter in the school shooting, tweeted: "This is absolutely despicable." Cotton Incorporated responded on Tuesday to a viral Facebook controversy surrounding a Hobby Lobby decoration that angered a customer.The customer shared a photo of a cotton decoration on Sept. 14, 2017 on Facebook, and said it is reminiscent of slavery and those who were forced to pick cotton. She called for the retailer to remove the item from shelves."We were surprised at the initial post because cotton has been sold in craft stores and used as a botanical decoration for decades," a Cotton Incorporated spokesman said in a statement. "Based on the responses to the original post, it does not seem that most people conflate a decorative choice with a regrettable chapter in American history."On Monday, Sept. 18, the "Cotton Stems in Glass Vase" item on Hobby Lobby's website was on sale for , marked down from .99.
