SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police today were investigating the death of a man found lying in the middle of a Rancho Bernardo road.Dispatchers received a call about 11:55 p.m. Thursday from a person who reported seeing a person down in the road near the intersection of Cresta Drive and Sonora Road, just south of Rancho Bernardo Road, San Diego police Sgt. Michael Stirk said.Firefighters responded to the area, found the man and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Stirk said.Investigators were attempting to determine if the man was hit by a car or suffered a medical emergency, Stirk said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene and will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.Anyone with information regarding the death was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 839

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Temperatures throughout San Diego County will warm slightly each day leading up to the arrival of a heat wave for Labor Day weekend, according to the National Weather Service.The agency issued an excessive heat watch that will be in effect from Friday morning through Monday evening in the western valleys, the mountains and the deserts. An excessive heat watch will also be in effect from Saturday morning through Monday evening in coastal areas.High pressure will strengthen over California throughout the week and begin ushering in the sweltering conditions on Friday, forecasters said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Board of Supervisors today voted unanimously to make San Diego County's million Small Business Stimulus Grant program available to all businesses affected by COVID-19 safety restrictions.Supervisors voted to expand the small business relief program via teleconference after hearing an update on the county's efforts to combat the spread of the virus as well as information about future vaccine distribution.They also heard from numerous businesses owners angry over the newest state restrictions mandated by Gov. Gavin Newsom.The restrictions, which went into effect at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, were triggered when intensive-care unit bed availability remained below 15% afterSaturday's daily update, according to the California Department of Public Health. New infections and hospitalizations from the coronavirus have surged in San Diego County, which reported its third-highest daily total of COVID-19 cases on Monday with 1,998.It was the seventh consecutive day with more than 1,000 new cases and the 15th time in the last 18 days. A record 2,287 infections were reported Friday. The cases reported Monday bring the county's cumulative total to 94,169.No new deaths were reported Monday with the total remaining at 1,062. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Supervisors Nathan Fletcher and Greg Cox announced Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursed the county more than million for providing medical attention to immigrants and asylum seekers who temporarily stayed at a shelter near downtown San Diego earlier this year.FEMA sent a check for ,022,686.12 to San Diego County to cover costs that its Health and Human Services Agency incurred in the first half of the year. According to Fletcher and Cox, the funds were primarily meant for county staff and contracted organizations that dealt with a flu outbreak at the shelter in addition to offering resources to thousands of migrants."We're glad the federal government stepped up to cover costs for a problem it created," Cox said. "Let's not forget we opened an unused county building for a shelter because immigration authorities were releasing asylum- seeking families on our streets without providing them any resources.
