SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two former members of an Imperial County church that federal prosecutors allege was embroiled in a labor trafficking scheme in which church members forced homeless people to surrender their welfare benefits and panhandle for the church, pleaded guilty to labor trafficking and benefits fraud Thursday in San Diego federal court.Jose Gaytan, 47, and Sonia Murillo, 51, both of El Centro, admitted to assisting in the scheme to recruit homeless people in San Diego and other cities, then force them to participate in raising money on behalf of Imperial Valley Ministries, a non-denominational church headquartered in El Centro, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Prosecutors say former church pastor Victor Gonzalez ordered his members to prevent victims from leaving church properties, including by screwing or nailing windows shut and keeping doors locked from the inside at homes the church operated. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested and booked after trying to snatch a toddler from their parent's car outside of a Costco in Vista, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The incident happened just before 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the store located at 1755 Hacienda Drive.Sheriff's Sgt. Nanette McMasters said a woman, her fiancée, and their two small children were backing out of a parking stall when the suspect opened the rear vehicle door. The suspect attempted to remove the 2-year-old child from the car.The child's parents got out of the car and confronted the suspect, identified as Adam Glavinic."The incident drew a crowd and a physical confrontation occurred between the father and Glavinic," said McMasters.An off-duty sheriff's employee and other witnesses intervened in the confrontation and held the suspect until two deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene.Glavinic was arrested for attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility, according to McMasters.It's unknown at this time if the toddler, the father, or the suspect suffered any injuries during the incident.The incident remains under investigation. 1265

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were in custody this morning on suspicion of committing a home invasion robbery in the Skyline area.The victim and another man were inside a home at 7700 Skyline Drive around 12:30 p.m. Friday when two armed men entered the house, tied up the victim and the other man and stole items from the home and both victims, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The suspects left the home and jumped into a waiting gold car, which lost control a short distance away from the home and became disabled, Heims said.Several people ran from the vehicle and when police arrived on scene, they found two men near the car, both of whom were detained and later arrested, Heims said.San Diego police robbery detectives are investigating. 784
