BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) vowed Friday to enhance bilateral ties with Estonia.Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made this pledge during his meeting with visiting President of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia Ene Ergma in Beijing.Li praised the recent growth of relations and cooperation between the two nations, saying China values its ties with Estonia and regards the country as an important partner in the Baltic Sea region.China would work to increase the mutual political trust with Estonia, encourage the exchange and communications between the two business communities and strengthen the humanitarian exchange between the two peoples, Li said.Li recalled his visit to Estonia last September and applauded the close contact established between the CPC and the Estonian political parties, expressing his hope that the two sides could step up exchanges and cooperation based on the principles of independence, equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.He also briefed the Estonian guests about China's latest economic and social developments.Ergma, who was visiting Beijing at the invitation of Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo, said Estonia attaches great importance to its relations with China and is expecting to expand cooperation with China in fields such as biology and information technology.The Estonian parliamentary delegation arrived in China on Wednesday. BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday will begin its annual Spring Festival travel rush, with an expected 2.56 billion passenger trips in the coming 40 days.Airlines and trains have been added to cope with the passenger surge, which is 11.6 percent up year on year, according to the Ministry of Transport.The airport in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, announced Tuesday it would add another 252 flights for the travel peak period.The capacity of airlines in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will be raised 30 percent.In southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, a major hometown to migrant workers, 12 flights with 5,100 seats will be added between Chongqing and Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.Except for the temporary trains, more high-speed trains have been put into operation for the Spring Festival.The high-speed train will be increased to 88 pairs this year, 55 more than last year's 33 pairs in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, which largely eased the difficulties of buying tickets for passengers.Snow and sleet has struck five provincial level regions, including Hunan, Guangxi, Chongqing, Guizhou and Yunnan since Monday, disrupting transportation networks.The Ministry of Public Security Tuesday ordered police in the five hard-hit areas to go all out to keep traffic flowing and make sure no expressways were shut down due to slippery roads.Police in the five localities were ordered to clean snow and ice on the roads and store emergency response materials, such as snow blowers, and maintain control of the flow of vehicles heading to the hardest-hit Guizhou province."Snow and ice will bring great difficulties to transportation," said Weng Mengyong, vice minister of the Ministry of Transport (MOT).Five aspects of work, including anti-ice preparation, information release, monitoring network, emergency reaction and cooperation with public security bureaus, had been arranged ahead of the travel peak, Weng said.In early 2008, freezing weather across southern China caused power cuts and transportation chaos, preventing many residents from going home for family reunions during China's lunar new year.Other new services are also being supplied as the pressure of transportation is increasing this year.The Wuhan Railway Administration started ticket delivery services for migrant workers this year and about 3 million tickets will be delivered.In south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Nanjing Railway Administration opened micro-blogs on Sina.com and QQ.com to offer railway transportation information.In the next 40 days, not only passengers, but also railway crews, will face great challenges."Patrolling is like a sauna to me," said railway police Zhao Hongye in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province."It is too crowded. BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China will increase the flexibility of the yuan exchange rate and further push forward the opening-up of its financial markets, a senior central bank official said Friday.China will continue the reform of the yuan exchange rate mechanism and keep the rate basically stable at a reasonable and balanced level, Li Dongrong, assistant governor of the People's Bank of China, said at a forum. The speech was posted on the central bank's website.The Chinese yuan strengthened to a record high against the U.S. dollar Friday, the central parity rate reaching 6.5896, the second straight day it has been set below 6.6 per dollar, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.The currency has risen by more than 3 percent since the country's central bank announced in June 2010 it would further reform the yuan exchange rate formation mechanism to improve its flexibility.Li also said the central bank will work to expand trials of cross-border yuan settlement, to facilitate trade and investment.The central bank will promote the policy of allowing exporters to park their foreign revenue overseas, Li said, adding that it will further develop the foreign reserves market and create tools to hedge exchange rate risk.Li's speech came after the central bank announced Thursday the nation's qualified businesses and banks may settle their overseas direct investment in yuan, a move that expands the Chinese currency's global reach and eases excess domestic liquidity concerns.Li also voiced concern about loose credit globally, saying such policies are adding to capital-inflow and currency-appreciation pressures, leading to asset bubbles in some emerging economies.China still faces many challenges, Li said. "Expectations for inflation are rising. Housing prices are still high in some cities. Pressure from continuous inflows of foreign capital is increasingly evident," he said.The central bank will soundly manage money supply and maintain reasonable growth in credit, he added.
