Adnan Syed, the subject of the groundbreaking true crime podcast Serial, has been granted to a new trial by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, according to the Associated Press.In 2016, a Baltimore City Circuit Court vacated Syed's conviction in the murder of Hae Min Lee. The state then appealed the ruling. According to the Baltimore Sun, the state can still appeal to the Maryland Court of Appeals. It's unclear if the state will choose to do so.Syed was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee in 2000. After the massacre in Florida last week, schools have faced dozens of incidents involving a threat or a weapon on campus.Nationwide, schools have reported at least 56 such incidents since the February 14 shooting in Parkland, Florida, including threats via social media networks such as Snapchat and Instagram, according to CNN and affiliate reporting.Some were reported in Florida, including in Broward County, where a gunman killed 17 people last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. A Washington man who followed the Pittsburgh synagogue suspect on social media was arrested on gun charges after his relatives reached out to authorities, federal court documents show.Jeffrey R. Clark Jr. was charged Tuesday with illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and transporting a firearm in interstate commerce.Clark's family members tipped off authorities after they grew concerned over his involvement with the so-called alt-right movement, an affidavit says. It said he was "friends" with synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on Gab, a social media platform that describes itself as "the free speech social network."On October 27, within hours of the attack that killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Clark's brother, Edward, went to Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington and fatally shot himself, the affidavit says."After the death of Edward Clark, Jeffrey Clark became more outspoken about his radical views, expressing them openly to his family members who were in the area following Edward Clark's death," the affidavit says. "During these conversations, Jeffrey Clark defended Robert Bowers' killings at the Tree-of-Life Synagogue. Jeffrey Clark also stated that he and Edward Clark had both fantasized about killing 'Jews and blacks.' A Wisconsin judge has ruled against a Trump campaign lawsuit that sought to overturn the results of the presidential election in the state.“Because the court is satisfied the rules and guidelines applied in each of the disputed areas are reasonable, and a correct interpretation of the underlying early absentee voting laws, the certification of the results of the 2020 Wisconsin presidential election, after the Dane County and Milwaukee County recounts, is affirmed," Judge Stephen Simane said in a ruling released Friday.Hearings were scheduled Thursday for the campaign's federal and state lawsuits that were an effort to invalidate thousands of ballots in both Dane County and Milwaukee County.The attempt to overturn ballots in Milwaukee County was dismissed Thursday afternoon.Prior to the decision, attorneys for Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the state elections commission said the cases are without merit and should be dismissed.The ruling clears the way for Wisconsin's 10 electoral college votes to go to Biden.
