SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are warning Americans traveling to Tijuana about people posing as police officers reportedly getting aggressive with drivers waiting to cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Photos from Tijuana Police show officers near the port putting a man in handcuffs. Authorities in Mexico say he’s one of 35 people arrested Sunday for being aggressive to drivers waiting to get back into the United States. The concern was raised this week as travelers are expected to head south for the holiday weekend. Marco Sotomayor, the Secretary of Public Safety in Tijuana told the San Diego Union Tribune that the city is seeing cases that are more violent and more consistent. Sotomayor goes on to say that criminals sometimes mask themselves as police officers wearing fake badges on hats and jackets, demanding money from drivers stuck in lines. "I think you very much stick out if you've never been to Mexico, and you don't know where you're going and you don't know what roads to take, I think that does make you a very easy target,” said Amanda Matti with Daytripper Tours. She says the company has been safely traveling into Mexico for 30 years. Because they travel in large groups via buses and have contacts across the border, Matti says their tour service never runs into these type of issues. "Our driver is usually local, experienced in Mexico, our tour managers are experienced, so I think they know not to target us."Matti says if you plan on going this weekend and don’t have experience, don’t go alone. "We definitely recommend traveling in a group." 1595

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A Caltrans project to expand an SR-78 ramp in North San Diego County has some residents concerned about their safety.Crews have been working on the Woodland Parkway on-ramp to improve the flow of traffic to the freeway. Eventually, there will be an additional lane at the Woodland and Barham on-ramps.Residents told 10News the construction set-up is too dangerous for drivers.“I'm saying a prayer before I get on the ramp cause you really need it,” said Jacqueline Duron.She also said the ramp set-up doesn’t give drivers enough time to speed up and merge onto the freeway safely.“A lot of the times all the lanes are packed - so there's nowhere for anybody to go - and drivers going up the ramp getting smashed on the cement wall,” said Duron.Neighbors also posted concerns on the NextDoor app, calling the situation a ‘death trap’.Crash statistics for the Woodland Parkway ramp to westbound SR-78 show a slight uptick from last year, with seven crashes to the previous year’s five.Even though the number of accidents were slightly higher this year compared to 2017, the CHP says the numbers do not support the existence of an issue.10News talked with Caltrans about neigbors' concerns. (KGTV) -- Cell phone video reportedly taken Wednesday morning shows San Diego County Sheriff's deputies at a San Marcos home that's been at the center of an ongoing battle. When Team10 arrived, there was an eviction resolution notice taped to a window on the property. Neighbors tell us that they're thrilled the eviction process is finally underway. This is a story that Team10 has been following since May - when we spoke with a local hopeful home buyer, John Masnica. He says Julie Frisino and her family unlawfully moved into the house while Masnica was in the process of closing escrow on the bank-owned foreclosure. Wednesday, he told us, "She's just a deadbeat from a family of deadbeats that take advantage of the system." He went on to say, "I hope that now that they're out of this house that there aren't any other available houses for them to try to break into."Frisino took the situation to court, claiming she had rights to be there. This summer, a judge said the bank trustee, not Frisino, had rights to the home.Masnica and his wife are due with their fourth child. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced his resignation Tuesday, hours after new sexual abuse allegations surfaced against the embattled politician.The mayor's announcement comes after his cousin gave an interview with the Seattle Times alleging abuse, the latest in a series of allegations against the mayor. The cousin is the fifth person to accuse Murray of child sexual abuse.Murray denied the allegations, as he has in the past. He said he was resigning effective 5 p.m. Wednesday so the scandal would no longer overshadow his office. In light of the latest allegations, he said it was clear it is best for the city for him to step aside."While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business," he said in a statement."To the people of this special city and to my dedicated staff, I am sorry for this painful situation."Council President Bruce Harrell will become mayor upon Murray's resignation, Murray said. Data used to rank schools is compiled using information by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the Campus Safety Security Survey."Keeping our students safe is the University Police Department’s No. 1 priority," CSUSM Chief of Police Scott Ybarrondo said in a release. "There are enough stresses in college life, and worrying about your safety on campus should not be one of them.
