SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked San Diego-area residents Wednesday to be on the lookout for a parolee wanted in connection with a recent Northern California homicide.Joshua Thomas Vaden, 30, is suspected of murdering a South Sacramento man last month, according to police.Relatives who had been unable to contact 49-year-old Army veteran Demian Michael for days found him slain in his home on the afternoon of April 14. Detectives soon identified Vaden as Michael's suspected killer, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.Vaden is a transient with gang ties and prior arrests for vehicle theft, resisting officers, carjacking, assault, battery, robbery, burglary, lewd acts with a child and failure to register as a sex offender, officials said. He is believed to have fled to Southern California, possibly the international border area in San Diego. He is described as black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing roughly 180 pounds.Anyone who may have information about the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call 800-222-7463. 1050

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Countywide sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties both fell from September to October while prices increased, according to data released Thursday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Sales of single-family homes fell 4.9% from 1,862 in September to 1,771 in October while attached-property sales fell 2% from 943 in September to 924 last month. Sold listings of both property types have fallen for four consecutive months, according to the GSDAR.Median sale prices of single-family homes rose 3.1% from 5,000 in September to 5,000 in October while attached property prices increased 2.4% from 9,000 in September to 9,000 last month. GSDAR President Kevin Burke argued sales fell and prices increased due to a limited supply of available properties.RELATED: Making It In San Diego: How housing got so expensive``Rising prices and low inventory are still a burden on our state and local housing economy,'' Burke said. ``But mortgage rates that are approximately 1% lower than at this time last year should give some lift to buyer demand.''Single-family home sales increased 1.9% from 1,738 in October 2018 to 1,771 last month while attached property sales decreased 3.8% year-over-year, from 960 in October 2018 to 924 in October of this year.Year-over-year median sales prices increased by more than 2.5% for both property types. Single-family home prices rose 3.3% from 3,900 in October 2018 to 5,000 last month while attached property prices rose 2.6% from 8,000 in October of last year to 9,000 last month.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Cost of housing driving up retirement spending in CaliforniaReal estate agents sold 54 single-family homes in Fallbrook last month, the most of any ZIP code in the county. El Cajon was the only other ZIP code with 50 or more sold in the month. 1877

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Narcotics officers raided a Hillcrest smoke shop and arrested a clerk suspected of possessing a third of a pound of the synthetic drug spice and nearly ,000 in cash, authorities said Thursday. The raid Tuesday at Godfather Smoke Shop in the 3500 block of Fifth Avenue resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old Loay Lawrence, who's also suspected of possessing 375 pills of the synthetic drug Kratom. Both spice and Kratom are banned under the city of San Diego's synthetic drug ordinance, which was enacted in June of last year "in response to a high number of synthetic drug related overdoses," San Diego police Narcotics Unit Lt. Matt Novak said.Narcotics detectives began investigating the Godfather Smoke Shop after receiving a tip that spice was being sold there, Novak said. Lawrence's case will be turned over to the San Diego City Attorney's Office for prosecution. He faces criminal and civil penalties up to six months in jail, 959

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Eight residents and two pets were displaced Tuesday when a fire caused by electrical failure broke out in a Grantville apartment building, authorities said. The noninjury blaze was reported shortly after 5:35 a.m. at a two-story apartment building on Reflection Drive, in The Village Mission Valley apartment complex off Santo Road and Friars Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof of one apartment building, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said, adding that all residents were able to escape safely before firefighters arrived.Firefighters knocked down the flames and kept the fire contained to an apartment on the second floor, Munoz said. A time of knockdown was not available. One other apartment on the second floor and one apartment on the first floor sustained smoke and water damage, she said. There was also extensive water damage in the building's attic because of a broken water pipe.Fire investigators determined the blaze was caused by an unspecified electrical failure, Munoz said. The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents arrange for temporary lodging. The fire caused an estimated 0,000 in damage to the structure and an estimated 0,000 in damage to its contents, Munoz said. 1323

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County health officials announced Thursday that flu activity remained steady over the last week but confirmed flu cases are still three times what they were at this time last year. The county's Health and Human Services Agency confirmed only 36 flu cases over the last week, bringing the county's 2019-2020 flu season case total to 335. The county had confirmed 109 cases at this time last year.Only two residents have died due to flu complications since the county's flu season started July 1. At this time last flu season, the county had not recorded a flu death.County health officials expect flu cases to spike as the year approaches the holiday season and gets deeper into autumn and winter."The holiday season is right around the corner," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "With family and work gatherings coming up and people taking part in holiday activities, now is the time to get your flu shot to make sure you avoid getting sick and spreading the virus to others."County health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly advise the annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, especially in demographics with a heightened risk of serious complications like pregnant women, people with chronic medical conditions like lung disease and people age 65 or older.Residents can take precaution against contracting the virus by frequently washing their hands, cleaning commonly touched surfaces and avoiding contact with sick people. Residents can also get the flu vaccine at local doctors' offices, retail pharmacies and the county's public health centers.A full list of locations offering flu shots can be found at the county's immunization website, sdiz.org, or by calling 211 for the county's health hotline. 1809
