Newspaper reports called Feliciano's performance "disgraceful," and some called him a "hippie."Despite the controversy at the time, Feliciano was invited back to Detroit to sing the anthem 44 years later before a Tigers playoff game, where he received unanimous applause.Jimi Hendrix — Woodstock (1969)Prior to Hendrix's performance at Woodstock, it was hard to imagine the national anthem being played on an electric guitar. Now, it's considered one of the most iconic renditions of the anthem ever performed.Roseanne Barr — San Diego, 1990Comedienne Roseanne Barr is not known for her singing voice, and it showed during her rendition of the anthem prior to a baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds. She screeched her way through the anthem, and capped it all off by spitting on the ground and grabbing at her crotch.Barr maintains her act was a joke, and told the Washington Post that she wasn't trying to respect the anthem or the flag with her performance. President George Bush disagreed.For her part, Barr maintains her version of the anthems was better than Fergie's.Whitney Houston — 1991 Super BowlWith the country newly entangled in a foreign war and security tensions high at the world's biggest sporting event, Houston delivered perhaps the most stirring and inspiring live performance of the anthem in the song's history. Even after her death, Houston's performance at the Super Bowl remains one of her most played songs.Jack Black — Los Angeles, 2011Black is most known for his slapstick comedy, so it must have been strange for fans of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks step to the mic for the anthem in 2011.However, Black is one half of the musical duo known as Tenacious D, and showed off his pipes in the 2003 comedy "School of Rock." Whether or not the Staples Center crowd was ready for it, Black went out and delivered a stirring rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner."Jesse McGuire — 2013 NFL PlayoffsThough the national anthem is played and sung live dozens of times each day, it's not often that an instrumental version of the anthem is played solo. San Ysidro, CA (KGTV)- The border wait times to cross into the United States are significantly shorter Tuesday.According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection App, the wait times at the border in San Ysidro averaged around an hour depending on the time of day.In the last few days, border crossers reported waiting up to ten hours to cross into the U.S."A lot of people going to the border five, six hours before their work entry, it's been crazy," said Jose Montanez.Montanez is a married father of two. He lives in Tijuana, but crosses to work as a manager at a taco factory. He said the lines this weekend were especially bad, even in the pedestrian lanes."Four hours, five hours waiting in line, standing in line, you get tired," said Montanez.Last Friday, CBP began "adjusting operations" to focus on essential travel. The goal is to slow the spread of COVID-19.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. To respond to the ongoing public health crisis and protect local southwest border communities, CBP is taking measures to discourage non-essential travel to and from Mexico to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. "Fewer lanes and increased secondary inspections led to massive delays."If they have to ask more questions and isolate people from one another so the essential workers can go and cross faster, that would be perfect," said Montanez.Instead, innocent workers are feeling the impact the most."Those that are crossing right now are doing so cause they really need to and they're going to continue crossing," said Paola Avila, of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.Restrictions have been in place at the border since March. Avila said the new protocol now doesn't make sense, especially since San Diego County is off the state's COVID-19 monitoring list."Non-essential businesses are going to start reopening. More businesses are going to start reopening, so you're going to have a greater workforce that's going to have to facilitate those businesses reopening, but now you're going to have these restrictions. It's not in sync with the rest of our procedures and regulations and restrictions," said Avila.She worries the strategy could backfire and lead to more virus spread, especially for people using the pedestrian walkway."Now, you have large masses of people with no social distancing, you're creating an unsafe environment," said Avila.Montanez says he does his best to keep his distance while in line."You do, even though, you're close to each other, there's no space between the front and the back of you," said Montanez.Agency officials urge people to only travel to Mexico if it's necessary."We need people to think twice about non-essential travel and to ask themselves if the travel is worth risking their lives and the lives of others. Scientists are tracking an object heading toward earth that could enter the planet’s orbit, and they are not entirely sure what it is.The object, named Asteroid 2020 SO, is believed to be man made and not a piece of moon or other planetary debris."I suspect this newly discovered object 2020 SO to be an old rocket booster because it is following an orbit about the Sun that is extremely similar to Earth's, nearly circular, in the same plane, and only slightly farther away (than) the Sun at its farthest point," Dr. Paul Chodas, the director of NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, told CNN."That's precisely the kind of orbit that a rocket stage separated from a lunar mission would follow, once it passes by the Moon and escapes into orbit about the Sun. It's unlikely that an asteroid could have evolved into an orbit like this, but not impossible,” Dr. Chodas continued.Other publications believe the object could be from Surveyor 2, which was launched in September 1966.Scientists are estimating 2020 SO will enter earth’s orbit in November 2020, then pass by earth at a distance of roughly 30,000 miles in December, before heading back out to space in early 2021.For perspective, commercial planes fly at an altitude of about 7 miles on average.There is no danger to earth posed by 2020 SO, but its slow speed and relatively close pass-by, means scientists can study it.
