NASHVILLE, Tenn. — NewsChannel 5 has partnered with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) to establish the “Nashville Neighbors Fund” to support downtown residents and businesses affected by the Christmas Day explosion along the riverfront. We know when disasters strike, there are no quick fixes,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.Gifts can be made to the Nashville Neighbors Fund at www.CFMT.org/neighbors. or by calling The Community Foundation at (615) 321-4939. MINNEAPOLIS — Police say a man captured on surveillance video breaking windows at a south Minneapolis auto parts store in the days after George Floyd’s death is a Hell’s Angels member who was bent on stirring up social unrest. The man, seen in all black and carrying an umbrella, was dubbed “Umbrella Man” by many on social media. The video showed the man breaking windows at an Auto Zone near where Floyd died. Police say up until that point, the protests in the area had been peaceful.Soon after the windows were broken, the Auto Zone was set on fire — the first of several buildings in the area that were burned during riots. The fires caused an estimated 0 million in damage."Until the actions of the person your affiant has been calling 'Umbrella Man,' the protests had been relatively peaceful," police said in a search warrant affadvit, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The actions of this person created an atmosphere of hostility and tension. Your affiant believes that this individual's sole aim was to incite violence."The Star Tribune reports a Minneapolis police arson investigator wrote in a search warrant affidavit police identified the 32-year-old suspect through an emailed tip last week.A Minneapolis police spokesman tells The Associated Press the investigation is open and active. 1321

Nearly a full year after the season started, the 2020-21 NHL season finally came to a close with the Tampa Bay Lightning winning its first Stanley Cup in 16 years by defeating the Dallas Stars on Monday. The Lightning won the best-of-seven series 4-2 after winning Monday’s Game 6 contest by a 2-0 ledger. The Lightning won the Stanley Cup despite not having the services of its top forward Steven Stamkos for most of the playoffs. Stamkos briefly played in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and he even scored a goal in his short appearance. The NHL suspended its season on March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a nearly four-month hiatus, the NHL resumed action with a 24-team playoff held in two “hub” cities – Edmonton and Toronto. The entirety of the Stanley Cup Finals was played in Edmonton.Stepping up for the absent Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point helped the Lightning to victory. Kucherov had a league-leading 32 points in the playoffs, followed by 31 points for Point. But it was defender Victor Hedman who won the the Conn Smythe Trophy for the playoff's most valuable player. The Lightning’s goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy, also stepped up with an under 2 goals against average. The Lightning’s Stanley Cup victory avenged the ending to the Lightning’s 2019 season. After winning last year’s Presidents’ Trophy, the Lightning was swept by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the playoffs. Columbus was the last team from the Eastern Conference to make the playoffs last year. 1519

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - Some unexpected joy is arriving in the mail for residents of local senior care facilities, amid the ongoing restrictions on visitors. When the coronavirus pandemic forced visitor restrictions on nursing homes, Terri Martinson was conflicted. Her father is a resident at Parkview at Paradise Village in National City. She was happy the health of her father - Clyde Hasemeyer - was being protected, but she knows her dad."My dad is very social. He loves getting visitors, and telling jokes, playing games, singing and laughing. I was really concerned he wouldn't have any visitors," said Martinson. She and her family call often and write letters, but a few days ago, Clyde got a letter from someone he doesn't know. Clyde, a Koren War Marine Veteran, received a letter from 14-year-old Christian Hughes.10news caught up with Christian and his mother Mariana a few days ago as they began a letter-writing campaign for local senior care facilities. Their idea caught fire on social media. Hundreds of letters and cards have started to arrive at nursing homes, ending up in the hands and hearts of people like Clyde."My dad was so happy. He laughed and enjoyed it so much. He asked the caregiver to tape them up on his wall, so he could look at them all the time. Just makes him feel so nice not to be so isolated away from everyone," said Martinson. It's a feeling of not being alone during a time of staying apart. "It's a small loving gesture we call all do ... it means so much to people who aren't in contact with other people right now," said Martinson. On a national level, the American Health Care Association has launched a campaign to facilitate letters and cards from the public to nursing home residents. Here is a list of local senior care facilities accepting letters and cards:Granite Hills Healthcare and Community CenterAttn: Activites1340 E.
