CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Robert Murray, who, as a leader of the largest privately-owned U.S. coal operator long fought federal regulations to reduce black lung disease, has died.A lawyer tells The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register that Murray died Sunday at age 80 at his home in St. Clairsville, Ohio.He had announced his retirement on Oct. 19 from American Consolidated Natural Resource Holdings Inc. as board chairman.The company sued unsuccessfully in 2014 over regulations to cut coal dust in mines to reduce black lung disease.No official cause of death was given.According to the Associated Press, recent reports stated Murray had applied for black lung benefits with the U.S. Labor Department in early October.The AP reported that the West Virginia Public Broadcasting and Ohio Valley ReSource confirmed the claim through an online portal maintained by the Labor Department.Murray stated on the claim that he was on oxygen and "near death," the AP reported. 980
Social media company TikTok says they plan on hiring around 10,000 people in the U.S. over the next three years, according to multiple outlets. The announcement comes after lawmakers and Trump administration officials have questioned the company’s data collection methods and threatened to ban TikTok.TikTok currently employs about 1,400 people in the U.S., a huge increase already over the 500 employees they had on January 1, 2020, according to Axios."These are good-paying jobs that will help us continue to build a fun and safe experience and protect our community's privacy," a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN. The jobs will range from customer service, to content moderation to engineering.TikTok is owned by ByteDance, which is based in Beijing. South Carolina is in mourning after a sheriff's deputy died nearly three weeks after she was wounded in a standoff, the Florence County Sheriff's Office said.Deputy Farrah Turner, who passed away on Monday, was one of seven officers who were shot when authorities tried to serve a search warrant on Oct. 3.Another officer, Sgt.
