In 2019, over one-third of Americans said they visited a casino within the previous year, contributing to an industry that generates billions of dollars annually in state and local tax revenue, according to the American Gaming Association. To get those visitors back, casinos had to do more than install plastic.“We’ve put Plexiglas between the counters, we’ve spaced out the seats and couches in each of the race and sports books, and we make sure that our customers as well as our employees are always wearing masks, and socially distancing,” George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment and Sports for MGM Resorts, said. “We’ve also introduced kiosks which allow people to sign up and place bets without having to go to a counter.“Kliavkoff said even with the safety measures in place, fewer bets are being placed the old-fashioned way.“When everything was shut down across the company and all of our hotels and casinos were shuttered, we were still making revenue with sports betting and iGaming. iGaming is online casino and poker and that actually surged as a business during the COVID shutdown,” he said. “Even if they’re in the sportsbook and enjoying watching the game in the sportsbook, we prefer them be placing their bets on the app, so that’s an embrace of the mobile technology.”While online betting and gambling isn’t legal in all states, MGM has created a platform for it called BetMGM. (KGTV) — Two people were arrested this week after a pursuit took authorities from Valley Center into unincorporated Escondido.San Diego Sheriff's Department says the pursuit began just after 9 p.m. near State route 76 near Pala Mission Rd. after a deputy spotted a stolen truck. When the deputy tried to pull the truck over, the deputy says the drier sped off.The chase reached speeds of 90 miles per hour and lasted about 30 minutes, with deputies from Fallbrook and San Marcos assisting in the chase.A spike strip was used and put an end to the chase near the Mountain Meadows community of unincorporated Escondido, the department said.After hitting the curb, the driver put the truck in reverse and rammed into a Sheriff's patrol car, deputies say.No deputies were hurt.The female driver and male passenger of the truck, identified as Sally Arrellanes and Roy James Duncan, were arrested and charged with felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon likely to result in great bodily injury, vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit crime and possession of a stolen vehicle. 1093

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dozens of email accounts at the Treasury Department were compromised in the massive breach of U.S. government agencies being blamed on Russia. That's according to an Oregon Democrat, Sen. Ron Wyden, who says hackers broke into systems used by the department’s highest-ranking officials. Wyden issued a statement Monday after he and other members of the Senate Finance Committee were briefed by the IRS and the Treasury Department. Wyden says that though there is no indication that taxpayer data was compromised, the hack “appears to be significant." In addition, the breach appears to involve the theft of encryption keys from U.S. government servers, Wyden said.“Treasury still does not know all of the actions taken by hackers, or precisely what information was stolen,” Wyden said in a statement.It is also not clear what Russian hackers intend to do with any emails they may have accessed.A Treasury Department spokeswoman declined to comment on Wyden’s statement.Treasury was among the earliest known agencies reported to have been affected in a breach that now encompasses a broad spectrum of departments. The effects and consequences of the hack are still being assessed, though the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity arm said in a statement last week that the intrusion posed a “grave” risk to government and private networks.In the Treasury Department’s case, Wyden said, the breach began in July.
