SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating an alleged attack on three women in hijabs in Little Italy as a possible hate crime. The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday on Columbia Street near Beech.Three women in hijabs were walking under scaffolding when a man approached from the other direction. Despite one woman moving to give him room, witnesses say 50-year-old Kyle Allen lunged his shoulder into one of them. "Fists started flying, and it was his fists. He started swinging at the women, trying to hit the woman that he almost knocked down, but he ended up hitting one of the other women," said a witness named Amy, who called 911 during the altercation. A hijab is a headscarf worn by some Muslim women. Amy, who asked us not to use her last name, said she also saw Allen rip off one of the women's hijabs from her face. "As I got closer I heard him calling her names and telling them to go back to where they came from," Amy said. Cell phone video shot after the incident showed Allen, going back and forth with bystanders. He ultimately walked to his high rise apartment around the corner. Witnesses followed him and pointed police in his direction.A San Diego Police spokesman told 10News that Allen greeted officers at his unit with a handgun that had a silencer. He was arrested without incident on firearms, battery, and criminal threat charges. Calls and texts to Allen's phone were not immediately returned. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police arrested a man on suspicion of killing the owner of an East Village flooring business, but a female suspect remains at large, detectives said Thursday.Kevin Eugene Cartwright, 51, was arrested in El Cajon Tuesday. No motive was released.??????10News spoke to Venus, who told us she was Ghedeer "Tony" Radda's cousin. Ten years his junior, she said she always looked up to Radda as a "cool older brother," who taught her everything from pop culture to how to grow up. She said the tragedy was so numbing, she still cannot accept it as reality. "I wake up everyone morning thinking, is this still a dream? Am I ever going to wake up from this nightmare?" Venus asked.Officers believe Kevin Cartwright and an unidentified woman killed Radda at Bottom Price Flooring on G Steet, October 10. Radda suffered trauma to his upper body and died at the scene."I can't imagine him thinking, am I going to go now? Do I call my kids? Do I call my wife? At the end of the day, I just want him to tell us, why?" Venus said.For more than a week, investigators looked for two disguised suspects caught on Radda's newly-installed surveillance cameras. They captured a person in a Granny Mask and a woman with a purple wig.San Diego Police said Wednesday evening they arrested the man they believed was behind the Granny Mask-- Kevin Eugene Cartwright."Today did give us a little bit of peace, not that it will bring him back, but just to know that there is a little bit of closure, that one person has been caught," Venus said. 10News went to Cartwright's last known address in El Cajon. A man answered the door but provided no comment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego health officials are working with UCSD to notify people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at the school’s La Jolla campus.According to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, the period of potential exposure was between January 25 through May 15. Those who are known to have been exposed were notified.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since they may not have symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. "For anyone infected, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss.No-cost testing will be provided those identified starting May 30 at the campus Student Health Center on Library Walk.The number of annual cases of TB has decreased since the early 90s and has stabilized in recent years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego authorities are investigating a string of robberies involving thieves wielding hammers.San Diego police and sheriff’s department officials confirmed four incidents are being investigated, and they are trying to determine if the robberies are connected.At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a Circle K store on Tierrasanta Boulevard due to a robbery carried out by multiple males armed with hammers. It is unknown what the thieves took in the robbery.About an hour later, a man told police that several men with hammers confronted him at a convenience store near Black Mountain Road and ransacked his car before fleeing.Several minutes later, police responded to a 911 call from a driver who reported being flagged down on Maya Linda Road by a man who said he was robbed by a group of people with hammers.A fourth robbery involving a group armed with hammers was reported at a 7-Eleven in Mira Mesa, authorities said.No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, ABC 10News learned.Authorities do not have detailed descriptions of the assailants. 1100

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan is objecting to the early release of a man convicted of driving off the Coronado Bridge and crashing in Chicano Park, killing four people.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 27, was convicted of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury in the crash on Oct. 15, 2016. He was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison. He is set to be released early after serving two years and 10 months of his sentence. Monday, the CDCR notified victims in the case of the release, citing prison credits for good behavior and the state's policy on release amid COVID-19. Stephan wrote a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), calling the release a "miscarriage of justice.""This very early release is unconscionable," Stephan wrote. "CDCR’s decision is re-victimizing the family and friends of the four people killed and seven injured who have been devastated by their loss and continue to deal with the financial, emotional, mental and physical trauma caused by the defendant. This inmate continues to deny and minimize the crime by refusing to admit he was speeding and denying being impaired while arguing with his girlfriend on the phone, which resulted in the devastating crash."The crash killed Annamarie Contreras, 50, and Cruz Contreras, 52, of Chandler, Ariz.; and Hacienda Heights residents Andre Banks, 49, and Francine Jimenez, 46.
