GAINESBORO, Tenn. — A trapped diver from the United Kingdom has been safely rescued Wednesday evening in Jackson County, Tennessee. Josh Bratchley was rescued just before 7 p.m. at the Mill Pond Cave in Gainesboro. Bratchley was evaluated by medical crews on scene and refused medical treatment. Bratchley was one of the rescue divers who saved a Thailand Soccer team from a cave last year.Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Jackson County 911 received a call about an unaccounted-for man in the area of Mill Pond Cave at Flynn's Lick of Gainesboro.Responders on the scene learned a group of tourists from the United Kingdom had been diving in and exploring the Mill Pond Cave for the past few days.When the tourists returned from a dive around 3 p.m. Tuesday, they could not account for one of the members of their group. They attempted another dive to find their missing friend prior to calling 911.A press conference will be held later Wednesday. 951

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla — The state of Florida ruled Wednesday that a young boy stricken with cancer must continue to receive chemotherapy treatment against his parents' wishes.The judge ruled that the state will take custody of 3-year-old Noah McAdams so he can finish the remaining 13 of 28 days of scheduled chemotherapy treatments. She also ruled that the family can use additional treatments — including medical marijuana — to help ease his symptoms of the chemo treatments.At the end of Noah's cancer treatments, the state will determine whether the boy still has cancer. Following that time, the family will have an opportunity to switch Noah's care to a different doctor.The judge's ruling comes after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office told media outlets on Monday that Noah's parents, Taylor Bland-Ball and Joshua McAdams failed to bring the boy to a medically-necessary hospital procedure and refused to follow up with lifesaving medical care. They did not provide specifics, but sent out an alert that labeled Noah as "missing and endangered." The family was found late Monday afternoon in Kentucky."We just want him to be healthy, happy and with his family that’s going to give him the absolute best care,” Bland-Ball said. “They made it seem like we were trying to run away, like we were trying to seek no treatment whatsoever and that’s completely not the case."The parents says their son is suffering from leukemia. They claim Noah is in remission and doing well, but did not provide proof to support their claim. They say they were taking him to Kentucky for a second opinion."We were not trying to run from the case, there was nothing that we were trying to hide. We’re just trying to seek the best opinion for our son,” Bland-Ball said. “We basically just feel like this is our parent rights being stomped all over.”But doctors who treat cancer like this say just because the leukemia isn't showing up, doesn't mean he's cured.“We have no way of saying that he is cured of leukemia this early in therapy,” said Dr. Bijal Shah, the clinical leader for the Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia program at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.He says a leukemia diagnosis can be devastating, which is why he says it’s important to not victimize the family."To navigate this two-and-a-half year journey is extraordinarily intensive an extraordinarily stressful,” he said. “You can imagine having to do blood draws, bone marrow biopsy‘s and all of these things for your three-year-old child."He says there are some promising new therapies being developed such as immunotherapy, antibody directed drugs that deliver drugs directly to tumor cells, and Car T-Cell therapy. But he says those don’t have the same cure rate as chemotherapy."We’re not at a point now where I think we can apply these outside the context of a clinical trial if we’re talking about a newly diagnosed patient with aggressive leukemia,” he said.Last week, a judge gave Bland-Ball’s parents the right to shelter him temporarily until the court could reach a decision. The state will maintain custody of Noah, and he will likely get his next chemo treatment tomorrow.Bland-Ball says last week was a whirlwind that ended when a judge gave them the opportunity to seek a second medical opinion on treatment options for their son.They say they found a doctor in Oldsmar, Florida but he couldn’t make it in for testimony until Friday. That's right, you can now get a degree in brewing.With craft beer now a multi-billion dollar industry, we're learning more students are now studying the science of suds. Among those students is Chris Thibodeau, who recently graduated from Metropolitan State University in Denver, with a degree in brewery operations.“For the love of beer," says Thibodeau of the reason he decided on this major. Thibodeau says he's drawn to the process of making beer, as well as the beer community.A retired United States Air Force veteran, Thibodeau has turned his love of beer into a second career. He says that the brewery program is just as difficult as military life.“It's not just drinking beer and having a party,” he said. “It’s hard work but it's rewarding in the end.”As the craft beer industry continues to grow, there's now a growing number of colleges across the country offering what you could call "brewology" degrees.“Honestly, you get an incredible grounding in every aspect of what it takes to operate a brewery, what it means to make beer, what it takes to sell beer,” said Ethan Tsai, an MSU Denver beer industry program instructor. Tsai says brewing is a science. He also makes the curriculum sound like more of a headache than a hangover.“The microbiology that you need to know or understand to brew beer, the chemistry involved in that, its fairly extensive,” Tsai said. Four years of studying mathematical equations and malting barley has paid dividends for Thibodeau, as he recently received his degree during a special veteran’s graduation ceremony at the MSU Denver campus. He also accepted a part-time position at Tivoli Brewing Company in Denver.“This brewery program has been amazing,” he said. “Just the insight to all the different aspects of brewing and preparing us for any situation we might encounter in a brewery.”More veterans seem to share Thibodeau's passion for studying brewing science.
