SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego-based Qualcomm won a million decision Friday against Apple in a patent infringement case involving iPhones. A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California found the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X infringed Qualcomm’s patents. One of the patents enables "flashless booting”, eliminating the need for separate flash memory. It also allows a smartphone to connect to the internet quickly after being powered on, according to Qualcomm officials. The other two patents allow smartphone apps to access internet data quickly, and enable high performance and graphics while increasing battery life, Qualcomm said in a news release. Qualcomm was awarded million in damages from July 6, 2017, the date the lawsuit was filed, through the end of the trial. "Today's unanimous jury verdict is the latest victory in our worldwide patent litigation directed at holding Apple accountable for using our valuable technologies without paying for them," said Don Rosenberg, executive vice president and general counsel for Qualcomm. "The technologies invented by Qualcomm and others are what made it possible for Apple to enter the market and become so successful so quickly. The three patents found to be infringed in this case represent just a small fraction of Qualcomm's valuable portfolio of tens of thousands of patents. We are gratified that courts all over the world are rejecting Apple's strategy of refusing to pay for the use of our IP." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Unified School District officials confirmed to 10News Thursday that a teacher has been placed on leave while investigators look into accusations that he exposed a sixth-grade class to pornography.Officials said they were first notified Monday after a parent reported the alleged incident happened during a physical education class at Horace Mann Middle School, located at 4345 54th Street in San Diego."San Diego Unified is investigating the incident that allegedly occurred at Mann Middle School. The employee has been placed on leave pending the investigation,” district officials said.The district said it has spoken with at least 10 students regarding the report. There were at least 24 students in the class.District officials and district police are investigating."It's reprehensible," Craig Tinson, whose 12-year-old grandson attends the school, said. "Becuase the students are very impressionable. They're looking for adults to be the leader and unfortunately, it was compromised on this occasion."A parent of one of the students told 10News that her son was in the class when the teacher allegedly showed the students an adult video of a man and woman engaged in sexual activities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego is offering active-duty military and veterans free admission to the park this fall and winter.Through the Waves of Honor program, military personnel and up to three direct dependents can get free admission to SeaWorld when they reserve their visit online.The same deal applies to veterans and is available through Nov. 15, 2020.Those eligible must verify their active-duty or veteran status online with SeaWorld. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Registrar of Voters addressed worries over ballots that may have been filled out using Sharpies, saying the ballots will not be disqualified.Wednesday, an attorney working for President Donald Trump's campaign claimed supporters who used Sharpies on their ballots are worried that their votes are being thrown out as Arizona's vote tally continued. Our voting system prevents a situation where if a voter uses a Sharpie to vote and it bleeds through to the other side, it will not impact any 'bubbles' on the opposite side," the Registrar said.The county added that polling locations do not provide Sharpies and instead use "archival pens," which were identified to be the best writing instrument more than a decade ago."In San Diego County, we do not provide Sharpies to voters to mark their ballot. What we use are archival pens, which we researched over 10 years ago as the best marking instrument for a voter.
