LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -  A thief in a hoodie made off with a haul in La Mesa and the contents of that haul are sparking outrage.Outside her condo just off El Cajon Boulevard, Kathleen put out several bags and boxes right outside her front door Monday morning. "A lot of sweaters and warm winter clothes, a couple pair of shoes and a teddy bear," said Kathleen. Also included: Several throw rugs and some households items. Stuck on each box and bag was a sticky note with the name: Vietnam Veterans of America, the group picking up the donations."They weren't scheduled to come until Tuesday," said Kathleen. So when Kathleen came home Monday afternoon and discovered the donations gone, she checked her Ring camera footage. The video begins with a person in a hoodie, bending down, lifting a box and throw rug, and then running off. Kathleen says the camera wasn't rolling when the other stuff vanished."Really sad they take from Vietnam veterans," said Kathleen.Kathleen comes from a military family, including a brother who served in the Vietnam War."It's heartbreaking. These are people who wrote a blank check to the government with their lives, for our freedom," Kathleen.Neighbors saw the same hooded figure dumpster diving around the same time as the theft. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Head to football practice at La Jolla High School, and you'll hear plenty of positivity and encouragement. You'll also see the phrase "Sail The Ship" in red block lettering on the back of every shiny black helmet."SAIL is our motto. It stands for selflessness, accountability, integrity, and love," says senior Evan Brown. The second-oldest high school in the San Diego Unified School District, La Jolla's football program hit a rough patch in recent years. The Vikings hadn't posted a winning season since 2007, when most of the current players were in preschool and kindergarten. The changed when head coach Tyler Roach took over a couple of years ago, and the Vikings are hoping to build on 6-6 and 7-5 records the past two seasons."When I took over, kind of figuring out what we wanted to be about, how we wanted to establish our culture, trying to latch on to the Viking motto, and that's where the "Sail The Ship" motto came up."Roach admits he borrowed the idea from Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck. Fleck made the phrase "Row The Boat" famous as a motto when he coached Western Michigan to a 13-1 record and a Cotton Bowl appearance in 2016."P.J. Fleck's a guy a look up to a lot," Roach told 10News. "I researched a lot about his program, his excitement, and his energy."It's an energy Coach Roach hopes will lead to more winning seaons at LJHS.The Vikings are getting the 10News Pro Treatment this week, with daily coverage of the team all the way through their game against Santa Fe Christian on Friday night. 1566

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — East County residents say they're behind a local dog rescue's efforts to provide for canines, but that the facility has been operating dangerously.Suzy Avalos lives next door to the Happy Hearts German Shepherd Rescue, which is run out of a La Mesa home. She tells 10News the dogs that reside in the yard have had no problem jumping the fence."You see the fence is not high. It's right up here. The dogs don't have a problem jumping over this fence," Avalos said. "I've lived here for 10 years and it's just progressively getting worse."RELATED: Disease fatal to dogs that can spread to humans on the rise in some statesWhen the dogs escape they can also be aggressive, neighbors say, with at least one dangerous incident being recorded. 10News obtained records from the La Mesa Police Department showing at least 28 instances where officers responded to the dog rescue to help round up escaped canines or help people who say they were attacked by the dogs."We have a lot of people on this street that have young kids and I'm just worried a child is going to get bit or something worse is going to happen," Avalos said. "They're out of control and she should not have a license."The woman who runs the dog rescue, Donna, declined an interview by 10News. She did say she's sorry people are afraid of her dogs or any dogs.RELATED: 140 rats once living in van in Del Mar now up for adoptionDonna added that she's in the process of moving the rescue to a new facility in North County.Still, neighbors say she's spread that claim for a while. While they support the idea of rescuing the dogs, they say it needs to be done more responsibly. Or the rescue needs to stop."The frequency with which she forgets to close her gates or the dogs escape, it kind of imperils the neighborhood," Sean Hixson, another neighbor, told 10News. 1855

LAS VEGAS — President Donald Trump's campaign has sued the state of Nevada over a new bill that expands mail-in voting in the state for the 2020 general elections.Assembly Bill 4, which was signed into law on Monday during Nevada's special session, specifies that election officials will send all active registered voters a mail-in ballot if there is a statewide emergency or disaster directive. The state's Republican Party believes Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and the Democrat-led Legislature used the cover of the COVID-19 pandemic to introduce and pass AB4 in less than 72 hours and with little public notice, according to their press release. The lawsuit was filed late Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Nevada against Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske.Trump, who has voiced his opposition to expanded mail-in voting, has denounced the Nevada bill several times on Twitter this week. 909
