Peoria, Arizona officials say a 4-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from a backyard pool on Monday morning. Emergency responders were called to a home near 91st and Peoria avenues around 8 a.m. after the child was pulled from a pool. Peoria Fire officials saidsa the child was at a babysitter's house at the time. The pool was fenced and it's unknown how he got past the fence or how long he was in the water. The child was reportedly unresponsive and was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive. No further information about the incident has been released. So far this year, there has been just over a dozen media-reported drowning and near-drowning incidents involving children in Arizona. PALA, Calif. (KGTV) – An Oceanside woman is dead and a man and 11-year-old are hospitalized after a vehicle was found overturned on an embankment near State Route 76. The family of three, a father, mother and son, were traveling from Palomar Mountain back to their home in Oceanside. At about 6:13 a.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol received a call from San Diego Sheriff's Department about a vehicle that had veered off the roadway. The driver, a 30-year-old man from Oceanside, said he was unsure of his location and knocked unconscious in the crash, but that he was somewhere along SR-76 between Palomar Mountain and Oceanside. He also was not sure what time they went over the edge, but said they had been driving around 11 p.m. Thursday night, which means they could have been down there for close to eight hours. Both agencies dispatched crews to find the vehicle and using his cellphone location, were able to find the vehicle just after 6:30 a.m. south of SR-76 near Bodie Blvd. The vehicle, a Subaru carrying, was about 300 feet down a steep embankment near the roadway."He wasn’t even sure when the crash happened. He thought he left somewhere around 11 o’clock last night, heading home from Palomar Mountain to Oceanside, so he may have been out there all night," said CHP Public Information Officer Mark Latulippe. The right-front passenger, a 30-year-old woman, had died from her injuries in the crash. The driver sustained major injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center. An 11-year-old male who was in the right rear of the Subaru also received major injuries and was taken to Rady Children's Hospital. The driver and child are expected to recover.A small dog was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Animal control helped locate the dog after the crash.Investigators are not sure how long the vehicle had been there. They believe sometime overnight the Subaru was traveling on SR-76 near the Wilderness Gardens Preserve when for unknown reasons it left the roadway and overturned down the embankment. All three victims were ejected during the crash and found either partially or fully outside of the vehicle, CHP says. The names of those involved in the crash were not released. Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash and everyone is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt. 2342

PITTSBURGH — After receiving criticism following back-to-back losses against the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster told reporters on Wednesday that he will stop dancing on team logos for TikToks prior to games. 280

PITTSBURGH - A US Postal Service employee is on leave after bags of undelivered mail were found on the side of the street for trash pick-up outside a home near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to multiple reports.Several bags were reported to the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General Sunday and they are investigating. An agent with the USPS OIG says the bags contained a variety of mail.“USPS OIG Special Agents recovered several different classes of mail, including business mail, flats, and small amount of first class mail. We expect to perform a piece count of the mail today, and make arrangements to have the mail delivered to customers as soon as feasible,” Special Agent Scott Balfour said in a statement released Tuesday.“Once USPS OIG special agents conclude their investigation, the case will be presented for federal prosecution to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”A post office employee is on leave without pay in connection with this investigation. This is the second time in just the last week a mail person is under investigation for allegedly not delivering mail.According to WPXI, the other incident was caught on surveillance camera, showing a postal carrier dumping mail inside a garbage can. Agents say a ballot application and political advertisements were found.Balfour noted that the Postal Service has 630,000 employees and the majority are "hard-working, trustworthy individuals" who work around the clock to deliver the country’s mail. "Incidents of this nature are exceedingly rare when put into that context," he said in a statement to CNN. 1583

PARKER, Colo. — Nine months into the pandemic, trauma nurse Allison Boerner hoped the holidays would bring her a break from the loss she and her colleagues have witnessed all year.“Most of us are pretty exhausted,” said Boerner, an emergency room charge nurse at Parker Adventist Hospital. “We went through wave one and then kind of had our head above water and now it feels like our head is below water again.”That emotional weight is now heavier than ever as COVID-19 cases seem to be endlessly climbing across the country.“The fear of going anywhere other than the hospital and my house is terrifying to me because I'm living it every day, and I'm seeing what this virus is doing to people, and it's horrible,” said Boerner.Boerner said that’s why, for the first time in her life, she’s not seeing her family for the holidays.“It’s just something that I'm willing to sacrifice to keep all my loved ones safe.”She first felt the devastating weight of isolation during the holidays at Thanksgiving.“I'm from a big family and none of us saw each other. We had a Zoom meeting and it was hard,” said Boerner through tears. Now, with Christmas on the way, Boerner made the tough choice to once again stay away from those she loves, especially because her job puts her at a higher risk of bringing COVID-19 to her family.“Our whole family's never missed a Christmas Eve, ever. So this is gonna be really, really weird,” she said.Boerner has dozens of family members across Colorado and Christmas is the one time when everyone gathers.“It’s like a huge family tradition for all of us and we're not doing that. The hardest thing and the worst thing that I'll miss is just being surrounded by the love of my family especially after a year like this year,” said Boerner. The mother of two said her sadness goes beyond her own loss, it’s the loss her whole family is suffering too.“The fact that my kids are gonna miss that for like the first year that they really can understand Santa and Christmas, it’s heartbreaking. I mean it's really just, it's hard,” she said.Yet, Boerner knows the loneliness she feels this year is far less than the pain of losing a loved one. That moment is a loss she’s been part of for too many families in her community.“When we have to call a family and tell them that their loved one has died and they can't come see them because of COVID, it's the worst phone call. I will never forget their faces and their reaction. It's something that's burned into my brain and will never leave.”On top of those moments of profound pain, Allison has seen the hurt COVID-19 can bring even for those who aren’t infected, in part because she’s felt the heartache herself.“We've seen a huge increase in patients with depression, and you know they're very, very isolated, job loss…this pandemic is not just about sickness, it's about a whole entire life changing event.”2020 has been a life changing event hitting front-line workers harder than ever and an event Allison hopes we all can learn from.“It’s not worth risking to have one more Christmas together. You want many Christmases to come. I'd much rather spend Christmas with my family next year than not have some of my family members here because of this virus,” she said. But until then, she can only hope the zoom meeting this Christmas will be the last holiday she spends holding her screen tight. 3369
