SAN DIEGO (CNS) - One of four men who pleaded guilty in connection with last year's shotgun slaying of a Pacific Beach resident was sentenced Friday to eight years in state prison.Freddy Sosa, 38, was sentenced for his role in the Dec. 29, 2018, death of 44-year-old MarcAnthony Mendivil, who was killed in a home in the 2300 block of Wilbur Avenue.Sosa's co-defendants, Carlos Yslas, 25; Pedro Ramirez, 28; and Paul Charles Weinberger, 51, await sentencing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The North County Transit District will temporarily reduce service for its Coaster commuter trains starting Monday until further notice amid a drop in ridership tied to the coronavirus outbreak.Weekday train service will be reduced by about 50%, particularly around the noon hour, when several northbound and southbound trains will be suspended. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Monday he has directed city staff to delay full enforcement of parking regulations until Oct. 1, to provide more support for residents impacted by COVID-19.Parking enforcement has been limited to holiday or Sunday regulations in San Diego since March 16. During that time, the city has suspended citations for vehicles violating street sweeping parking restrictions, metered parking, time limits and yellow commercial zones. Citations have continued to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs.Previously, restrictions had been scheduled to return on July 1, Aug. 1 and Sept. 1, but the ongoing pandemic has prompted a delay each time.According to Faulconer's office, before March the city processed an average of 42,000 parking citations per month. In April, the city issued 1,704 parking citations for violations of the holiday or Sunday regulations.Restarting parking enforcement is seen as one small step toward restoring San Diego's economy by allowing for increased turnover of customers in business districts, Faulconer has said. But extending limited enforcement of parking regulations will provide additional relief for residents impacted by COVID-19 shutdowns."We know many San Diegans are facing financial hardship during this difficult time, and the last thing we want to do is add another burden like having to pay for a parking ticket," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian near a Logan Heights intersection.The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. Monday near the intersection of 25th Street and Imperial Avenue, east of Interstate 5 and south of state Route 94, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said.A man, whose age was not immediately available, was walking westbound in the left-turn lane of Imperial Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle heading eastbound on Imperial, Buttle said.ABC 10News learned the victim was dragged several yards; the driver of the suspect vehicle, described as a silver or gray two-door sedan, fled the scene without stopping.No description of the driver was immediately available.The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the officer said.
