A judge has ruled that the cases against all three defendants charged with murder in the death of Ahmaud Arbery can advance to the trial court. During a probable cause hearing Thursday, Magistrate Court Judge Wallace Harrell found that there is enough evidence for the cases against Greg and Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan to proceed.According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Arbery was in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, when both Gregory and Travis McMichael confronted Arbery with two firearms on February 23. During the encounter, Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery, prosecutors said.Bryan filmed the encounter, but it took nearly 10 weeks for the video to be made public. SCURRY, Texas -- The world of opioid addiction, the path it takes people on and the destruction it causes, is a world foreign to some but all too familiar to others. “When I was 19, is when I was first introduced to opioids,” said Andrew Rogers. Rogers is one of an estimated 1.7 million people in the U.S. addicted to opioids. “I went from pain pills which were easily available to heroin. The pain pills have actually gotten harder and more expensive to get so it’s just cheaper and easier to get heroin,” added Rogers, “from there on it was on.” Before he got hooked on heroin, Rogers had a bright future ahead of him with a full-ride scholarship to college on a pre-med track. But instead he has spent the last nine years in some pretty dark places. “It has made me do things I never thought I would do,” said Rogers. “I’ve overdosed twice. I’ve had friends who have died from it. I’ve actually had to hold one of my friends while he was passing away.” Like so many addicts, Rogers has tried quitting. In total he has been to rehab and detoxed 18 times. At the end of September, he checked himself into treatment again at The Treehouse, a recovery center. “We take the approach of treating the whole person,” said Dr. Ted Bender who is CEO of The Treehouse. “Teaching them how to think more rationally, teaching them how to handle the stress and emotion regulation. Teaching them how to have fun again and enjoy life again and become part of a community.” For nearly a decade, Bender has been trying to help so many people like Andrew Rogers. “We’re losing about a football stadium of people every single year to this epidemic. You know what would make an immediate impact – significant federal funding,” said Bender. “Recovery in itself isn’t the hard part. The hard part is getting the help you need,” said Rogers. A civil lawsuit brought by the young man who has accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault has been dropped, just over a week after it was filed, according to a new court filing.Spacey's accuser, who was an 18-year-old busboy at a Nantucket bar at the time of the alleged assault, filed the civil complaint on June 26. In it, the accuser said Spacey bought him "multiple alcoholic beverages" before he then forcibly touched and fondled his genitals -- the same allegations he made in an ongoing criminal case.The accuser's attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, told CNN via email Friday that he and his client voluntarily dropped the lawsuit and that he would have no further comment.Spacey, 59, faces criminal charges of indecent assault and battery in connection to the same alleged July 2016 incident. The former "House of Cards" star has pleaded not guilty.The civil lawsuit accused Spacey of explicit sexual behavior and infliction of mental distress. At the root of that: orders to stay home. “The authority lies with the governor and in a number of jurisdictions that authority can also be devolved down to mayors,” said Meryl Chertoff, executive director of Georgetown Law’s Project on State and Local Government Policy and Law. She said things like stay-at-home orders, curfews and non-essential business closings, all have legal footing. “There is some question as to whether these are voluntary at this point, or whether they are mandatory, but there is no doubt that if you took these to court right now, they would be sustained by a court,” she said. They are also enforceable, she said. If you were to break the law, you’d likely be charged with a misdemeanor. However, Chertoff said there is something even bigger she is keeping an eye on. “What I am more concerned about, candidly, are the violation of civil rights of individual and loss of the right to travel,” she said. “So, one of the things that I've been thinking about is what about the right to cross state lines.” There are a growing number of state rules now in place about travel.
