SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 58-year-old man severely injured after an assault at a home in Clairemont in early April died Monday. According to police, 58-year-old Randy Taing died of his injuries in the evening of April 8. San Diego Police said the incident occurred in the 4100 block of Ashford St. before 12 p.m. The man reportedly called his wife sometime around 11:45 a.m., though his wife said the phone was silent.She asked her son to call, who got through to his dad. That's when the man told his son something along the lines of a possible break-in, police say.The man's son called 9-1-1 and rushed home to find his father with upper body injuries. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but a safe had been taken. Neighbors of the family-owned business a mile away from their home, Rose Donuts, said the safe probably contained cash from the business. A family friend said the father, who he called Randy, was asleep at home during the robbery because he was filling in for his nephew at work. He said he was baking donuts at 2 a.m. while his nephew was on vacation.Customers who work in the area say the family is beloved. "They have two boys and sometimes they even babysit the grand kids while they’re working... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A billing error has double charged approximately 411,000 Medicare beneficiaries, according to government officials.The error affected those who pay their premiums to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) through Easy Pay (Automated Clearing House payments.) Officials say the premiums were deducted twice directly from beneficiary’s bank accounts.“They took out both my husband’s and my payment twice,” said Jacki Montierth.Montierth teaches tech seminars for seniors at Oasis Lifelong Learning Center in La Mesa, including about how to use their smartphones and computers to access financial and medical documents.She says, she closely monitors her account, but worries other people may not be as vigilant or even know how to check their statements.“I’m sure this will hurt many people on limited income and my bank says it may take a week to refund,” said Montierth.So far, officials say about 20% of the duplicated money has already been refunded. They said they are working to return the rest of the money by Wednesday, September 25.If the money has not been returned by then, Medicare officials claim the Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service will begin reversing the rest of transactions to complete the reimbursement.Those who worry they have been overcharged can call 1-800-MEDICARE to report an issue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A family wants the Governor of California to keep the man who murdered three San Diego State professors behind bars. Frederick Davidson was sent to prison in 1997 for three consecutive life sentences without parole after he gunned down his three engineering professors Chen Liang, Preston Lowry, and Constantinos Lyrintzis.The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office recently notified the victims’ families that Davidson applied for executive clemency.“Just asking for clemency?  Out of what?  On what grounds?” asked a distraught Esther Alonso, Lyrintzis’ sister-in-law.  Lyrintzis was married to her sister, Deana Alonso, and the couple had a young daughter.A District Attorney’s Office spokesman said the DA’s office already filed a letter opposing Davidson’s request.Alonso told 10News she could not believe Davidson would request clemency.  Alonso said the family agreed to not seek the death penalty in 1997 if Davidson agreed to plead guilty and go to prison for life without parole.“How can they tell them 20 years later that the deaths of their husbands and their fathers…that this guy has more rights than they do?” asked Alonso, a professor at Southwestern College. “I don’t understand a system where that is even possible.”Alonso created a Change.org petition directed at Governor Jerry Brown asking him to deny Davidson’s request.The DA’s spokesman said their office opposed more than 50 clemency requests last year and none of those requests were granted.  The spokesman added there is no deadline for Governor Brown to respond or send it to a hearing. 1627

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A desperate Mira Mesa mother is pleading for tips after her teenage daughter disappeared, leaving behind a trail of disturbing clues.November 8th seemed like an ordinary Friday. Tina Camacho remembers asking her daughter Cirena Artero, 16, about her day at school."We talked, and she said her day was okay," said Camacho.Cirena is one of Camacho's five children."Around 6:45 p.m., we thought she went to her room. Around 7:30 p.m., we knew she was missing. Days later, family members found Cirena's phone, tossed a few blocks away between two homes."I felt fear because what teenager runs off without their phone," said Camacho.The fear grew when she took a closer look at her phone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A City of San Diego employee says she was sexually harassed by her boss on the job and now the man accused of the harassment is asking the city to pay for his legal defense.The woman says her supervisor groped her and grabbed her arm hard enough to tear open a recent surgical wound, causing it to bleed. The parks and Rec Department employee alleges that her supervisor, Frank Cardenas, sexually harassed her, even touching her inappropriately at work.Josh Gruenberg is representing the city staffer and says she has put up with enough. "He pinned her legs against her desk in her cubicle he wrapped her up in his arms and pulled her close multiple times,” said Gruenberg.The victim says she rejected every overture Cardenas made. At one point, the victim says Cardenas told her "if she wanted to get the support to grow within the city she should only care what Cardenas thinks or wants.""He really tried to get her to put his trust in him and that it would be good for her career,” Gruenberg said.The lawsuit also claims that Cardenas gripped the victim’s arm so hard that he reopened a surgical incision, causing her to bleed at work."And all of this took place in the workspace. This was not something that involved the two of them going away for a weekend. This all took place on the job,” Gruenberg said.Cardenas declined a request for an interview. Monday night, the City of San Diego voted unanimously not to pay for Cardenas’s legal fees with city money and said they have no further comment. 1535
