A teenage girl deserves a major award. Not because of a winning horse show, but because of a winning chase behind a fleeing racehorse.One of the best racehorses from the 4H at Andover Farms broke free from her halter and galloped down Aviation Blvd during a 20-minute pursuit in Glen Burnie, Maryland.Sixteen-year-old Caroline Shoults was getting ready for her next class in the show when she heard the announcement regarding the runaway horse. Without hesitation, Shoults took a leap of bravery to chase her down."I live by this life quote, 'do for others as you would want to be done for you' and it has got me into quite the situation," said Shoults. "And I tried to control myself and just stay focused, I was about to walk in the rain, and I spun around and took off through the horses in the showground." Followed by two adults who immediately jumped into a vehicle to control oncoming traffic, Shoults aimed to steer the horse into a parking lot or off to the side of the road during the pursuit."I was not about to watch this horse right in front of me get hit by a car, injured, die, anything of the above."The horse finally tired out after a 3-mile run and stopped when Caroline was able to get a line around her.This young girl's bravery runs deeper than just doing the right thing. She too rescued her own racehorse 'Tinkerbell' from a Kill Pen and transformed her from a horse with little to no hope to a stellar all-around racehorse. "People are thanking me so much for what I did, but in the end, I couldn't have done it without Tink."After all the chaos and a gut-wrenching adventure, Shoults was able to finish strong and take on Tink's first competition completing a fantastic run finishing third out of 19 horses in that class. 1839

A standoff between police and an armed suspect that resulted in one officer's death and the wounding of another remains underway Saturday afternoon in Pomona, California, near Los Angeles, more than 15 hours after it began.The suspect is barricaded inside an apartment home after fatally shooting an officer and wounding a second one, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department."It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive," Pomona police Chief Michael Olivieri tweeted early Saturday morning. A passenger aboard a Frontier Flight heading from Denver, Colorado to Charleston, S.C. on Thursday, claims a man allegedly assaulted two women and then urinated on another passenger’s seat.Pictures obtained by KMGH?television station in Denver show the man, who has not been identified, being taken away by police once Frontier Flight 864 landed in Charleston.The pictures provided by the passenger show the man urinating on the seat in front of him and also show him getting escorted by police.A Frontier Airlines spokesperson did not comment on the specific details of the incident when asked for comment, but said they were aware of the situation.“The safety and security of our passengers is our top priority at Frontier. We have been made aware of this situation and are working with the appropriate authorities.” 831

A New Mexico family found out quickly how tough it would be to travel during the pandemic.Kylah Guerra was just 20 weeks into her pregnancy when doctors diagnosed her baby, Emerie, with lung lesions in the lower respiratory tract. That was back in March at the start of the pandemic.Getting the proper care for their daughter would mean Kylah and her husband would not only need to travel to Children's Hospital Colorado but would temporarily need to live nearby.“They did let me know that since we are so far that they didn't want us, me, to be travelling back home. So, he pretty much said that day you're going to be living in Colorado until you deliver,” said Kylah.Doctors say Emerie showed no symptoms when she was born June 24.The family returned to New Mexico for a couple days but returned less than two weeks later when Emerie had trouble breathing.Due to the pandemic and the nature of Emerie's condition, getting back to Colorado meant they had to go by emergency helicopter.“In the moment, we were trying to get her what she needed. Our main priority was just getting her back to where we knew they could help her. Once we seen, the flight crew arrived at our hospital. It was like a little bit of a relief,” said Kylah.The surgery was successful, and doctors removed the lesions.Meanwhile, the pandemic hasn't slowed the number of surgeries done at the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado, because they are considered essential. The hospital has seen a 61% increase in surgeries over the same time last year. About 81% of patients seen in the fetal care center are from out of state. 1628
