SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions.The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. But according to the DA's office, officials have actively been reducing or dismissing eligible marijuana cases under 2016's Proposition 64, which legalized recreational cannabis. Since 2016, the DA's office says it has reduced or dismissed more than 1,600 marijuana-related convictions.Under Prop 64, sections regarding cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale of marijuana, and sales and/or transporting marijuana — all felonies — qualify for resentencing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society officials are searching for the person responsible for abandoning a dog in a San Pasqual Valley canyon recently.A grove manager at Bandy Canyon found the neglected dog Friday, according to society officials. The male dog appeared to be an about 2-year-old pit bull mix.The dog was taken to the humane society's Escondido campus, where a veterinary team gave it IV fluids and placed it on a heated bed, as its temperature was low.Because of the dehydrated, neglected condition of the dog, the society's law enforcement arm has opened a felony animal cruelty investigation.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or SDHS law enforcement at 619-299-7012.This week's incident is the third similar incident to occur in the last month. In February, nine puppies were found abandoned at Kit Carson Park in a dog food bag. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans are remembering Talk Show Host and Entertainer Regis Philbin after he passed away Friday.Philbin's first television appearance was on the Regis Philbin Show at ABC 10News. Back then we were called KOGO TV."He never forgot where he started in television and that was right here in San Diego and he loved talking about it," Radio Personality and Friend Shotgun Tom Kelly said.Kelly rescued a couple old photos from the newsroom before they were thrown out depicting Regis' time at ABC 10News. One shows a youthful Philbin standing with the news crew in front of two rows of cars and a KOGO TV van.Another shows him at the Regis Philbin Show desk."I came to Channel 10 in 1960 and I think Regis started in 1961." Former Chief Photographer Lee Louis said he was 19-years-old at the time. He said Philbin seemed like a father figure back then, but he later realized Philbin was only 29.His most memorable assignment with Philbin was when Jayne Mansfield came to town. He said they "went to the old Lindbergh Field terminal off Pacific Highway before they even built the new terminal... He interviewed Jane Mansfield and as we talked about earlier, somewhere I have a black and white picture of him interviewing Jane Mansfield."Louis said he didn't realize until he saw Philbin on national television, what an icon he would become.Philbin's success, according to Kelly, was partially due to advice Philbin received from a San Diego Union Tribune Columnist named Don Freeman. Kelly said Philbin had just left the Navy and wanted to work in television. He said Philbin loved reading Freeman's articles and mustered up the courage to go meet him and talk about breaking into the business. Kelly said he gave him this advice, "I think you've got a future, the one thing that's going to make you stand out is be yourself. And that's what Regis was, he was always himself. If you met Regis in person, it would be the same way you saw him on television."That relatable personality drew millions of fans over the years, including Louis."I still enjoyed watching Regis and Kelly Live and 'yeah I knew that guy,' I started with him, or he started with me, I don't know which," Louis said smiling. Kelly said he had the privilege of hosting a Hollywood Media Professionals luncheon last year honoring Philbin's career. He wanted to surprise Philbin and brought out his first photographer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating reports of a person being shot in the Mount Hope area Friday.San Diego Police said they were investigating reports that a 27-year-old Hispanic man showed up to Scripps Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds just before 2 p.m. The man was rushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.Soon after, police responded to the scene of 41st and C streets to investigate the location of the reported shooting.SDPD said based on the evidence gathered, the victim was in an altercation with man when gunshots rang out. The suspect they are searching for is a Hispanic male adult, approximately 29-30 years old who fled the area in a green pickup truck. He was last seen wearing a blue and yellow hat and a green jersey.The vehicle was last seen fleeing southbound on 41st St.SDPD Gang Detectives are investigating the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans should get their flu shots before the flu season typically starts, county health officials said Wednesday.Most flu cases are reported between the end of October and April or May, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.It takes about two weeks after receiving the flu shot to develop immunity to the virus, said officials.“People should get vaccinated before the worst of the flu season gets here,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The vaccine is safe and effective and is available across the region.”342 people in San Diego County died of the virus during the last flu season, officials said. Most of the deaths were among those over 65, with underlying medical conditions.
