(KGTV) — A group of Oceanside teenagers fought off a man who attacked them on a bike trail Friday.The kids were walking on a bike path west of Fireside Park when the suspect called out to them, according to Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey. When the kids didn't respond, the suspect charged at them.The suspect pushed the kids to the ground and they rolled down an embankment, where the suspect continued attacking, Bussey said.The group fought back, one teen hitting the man with a stick to fight him off, before running to a house to call police.Police returned to the area and found the man after searching with canines and a drone. The man, identified as 55-year-old Sampson Marinanito. Police say Marinanito had a pair of metallic nunchucks he tried to toss away.Marinanito was taken into custody for child abuse, and possession of nunchucks and narcotics. 892

ORIENTAL, N.C. – A Navy veteran says his Chihuahua mix saved his life.Rudy Armstrong was on his houseboat in Oriental, North Carolina, when he suffered a stroke, according to CarolinaEast Health System.Luckily, Armstrong’s dog, Bubu, was there and sprang into action.“He and Bubu have a special bond and when Rudy couldn’t get to his phone to call for help, he looked his little friend in the eyes and said ‘I need help. Go get Kim,’” wrote the hospital in a Facebook post.Immediately, the hospital says Bubu ran off to get Kim, the area dockmaster, who called 911. They ultimately saved Armstrong’s life, with the help of paramedics and the staff at the hospital.On Aug. 7, the hospital says it was able to orchestrate a reunion between the veteran and “his best girl.” It was an emotional moment for everyone there. (KGTV) – A two-vehicle collision on an Oceanside street sent 10 people to the hospital late Sunday night.Oceanside police said the crash occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on state Route 76 at Douglas Drive.According to police, a silver sedan ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck with a family inside. The impact caused the truck to flip onto its side.A man, a pregnant woman and two children were trapped in the truck, while six people in the sedan were also trapped.It took emergency crews about 30 minutes to free the trapped people from both vehicles.The 10 people were taken to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. Fire personnel said at least six of the victims had “critical” injuries.The crash is under investigation, and police are trying to determine if the driver of the silver sedan was under the influence at the time of the collision. 887

(AP) — A California judge on Friday rejected the plea deals of two men who were charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter after a 2016 California warehouse fire.In handing down his decision, Judge James Cramer said 48-year-old Derick Almena didn't accept "full responsibility and remorse" for the fatal blaze which occurred during an unlicensed concert at the dilapidated Oakland warehouse known as the "Ghost Ship."The plea deal had called for Almena to be sentenced to nine years in prison and 28-year-old Max Harris to six years.
