SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For his 97th birthday one of Ed Stankowski's sons asked if he'd like to visit the USS Midway. The WWII veteran was on the ship for her maiden voyage in 1945. “He shot him down initially and says no I can’t go, you know I can't do that, he says, how am I going to get around?" said Paul Stankowski, another one of Ed's sons. “By 7 o' clock the next morning he was calling my brother up and says, hey when can we go!”Surrounded by four generations, Ed traveled from Wisconsin to San Diego. He got a private tour of the ship and told stories along the way. “Ha! My first night at sea I was seasick like a dog!" remembers Ed.One of the first stops on the tour was visiting the area he once worked in. “I was a Radioman, I was teaching the new recruits the radio code, international Morse code, and the procedure that they use for communicating," said Ed. Ed says he enjoyed his time in the Navy and that being back on the ship brought back memories. “I was very happy to get on a ship like that. It was the biggest ship we had in the Navy at the time and something to be a part of.” 1105

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- High surf is creating dangerous conditions for swimmers hitting the beach throughout San Diego County. A High Surf Advisory is in effect San Diego coastal cities from Monday morning at 8 A.M. until Tuesday night at 10 P.M.Just before 10 A.M. Monday, SDFD Lifeguards shut down the Ocean Beach Pier.They are also cautioning any swimmers and surfers who are not advanced to stay out of the water until the advisory expires.Many advanced surfers tell 10News they have been looking forward to this day for a long time. Those who hit the water Monday took advantage of the seven to 11 foot waves along the coast, saying it’s not just the swell and the direction but the time between the waves and the decreased winds that make for great surf conditions. "The quality and the length its just a great day a great day for everybody,” one surfer tells 10 News.One group of surfers found out first-hand how dangerous these conditions are. They were taking a boat to surf off of Point Loma when the waves flipped in Monday afternoon. The surfers escaped without injury, but the boat had to be towed back to shore. 1130

Zillow says the median home in San Diego is now worth 1,000. In the US, the median home is worth 6,800, down 0.1 percent from April. Overall, Zillow says home values in the US grew by more than 5 percent year-over-year. Someone taking up the slow lane on one of the scooters.California vehicle codes prohibit electric scooters on any road with a speed limit of more than 25 miles per hour.CHP officer Jim Bettencourt says he’s even seen them on the Coronado Bridge. A sign clearly states that pedestrians, bicycles and motor-driven cycles prohibited.As drivers go onto the bridge, not even an inch of space exists on the shoulder.
