BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that China and Germany should join hands to combat trade and investment protectionism.     The premier made the remark during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in which the two leaders also discussed bilateral ties and other issues of common concern.     Wen said cooperation between China and Germany, both among the world's major economies, is developing smoothly in a variety of fields.     He said the two sides should continue to handle their relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and keep up high-level exchanges. The two nations, Wen said, also should strengthen communications and coordination to push for a healthy and stable development of their bilateral ties.     China, Wen said, always adheres to a win-win strategy in opening to the outside world and insists on the maintenance of a fair and open market environment. He said China would never discriminate against foreign enterprises or products.     The premier said China's determination to cope with climate change is firm, its operations active, and its measures effective. China, Wen said, is ready to enhance collaboration with Germany in developing new and renewable energy and maximizing energy efficiency.     China also will participate in related negotiations and work with other countries to help bring about positive results at the December UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Wen said.     Merkel said Germany is very satisfied with the development of China-Germany relations. She said Germany is ready to work with China to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen trade and economic cooperation, and oppose trade and investment protectionism.     Germany also is prepared to jointly deal with the challenges brought about by the global financial crisis and advance bilateral ties, she said.     Merkel said she hoped that the two countries would strengthen communications and jointly tackle the issue of climate change.

XI'AN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged the country's college students to find grassroots jobs in less developed regions as the economic downturn increases pressures in employment market.     Visiting Xi'an, capital of central Shaanxi Province, from Friday to Sunday, Wen said employment was one of the government's priorities for the sake of the country's economy and for the future of individuals.     "College students, laid-off workers and migrant workers waiting for jobs are my biggest concern," Wen told job hunters at an employment center.     He encouraged graduates from universities and colleges to find work in grassroots regions, and called on employers to create more jobs.     Since the second half of last year, the government has implemented a series of policies to create jobs. The State Council, or Cabinet, also decided to give living allowances to graduates who went to the central and western regions for internships.     Everyone should have a resolute belief that they should try their best no matter what their job was, Wen told students at Xi'an Jiaotong University. BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the ruling United Russia Party met Tuesday to exchange views on the international financial crisis.     "This is the first official and high-level dialogue between the Chinese and Russian ruling parties," said Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee of his meeting with United Russia Party's council presidium secretary Vyacheslav Volodin.     Wang and Volodin signed an agreement on party-to-party cooperation on later Tuesday. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the signing ceremony.     Xi hailed the Sino-Russian relationship when meeting with Volodin before the ceremony, saying that China would work with Russia to promote stable and healthy growth of the ties, in a bid to benefit the two nations and peoples. The United States confirmed Wednesday that a 23-month-old child in Texas had died from the virus.

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The China Ping An Insurance (Group), which had plans to buy a 22 billion yuan (3.2 billion U.S. dollars) stake in Shenzhen Development Bank (SDB), said Sunday that there are no changes in buying into the bank for the moment.     There are no changes in the bank, and the stake purchase aims to improve Ping An's financial service and asset structure, said Zhang Zixin, general manager of the China's second largest insurer via a telephone news conference.     Ping An and SDB will operate with their own plans. The management team of the bank will not change right now, according to the Frank Newman, president of SDB, and Richard Jackson, president of the Ping An Bank Co., Ltd.     The company said last Friday it would buy 520 million shares from the U.S.-based TPG's Asian arm Newbridge Capital for 11.45 billion yuan by the end of 2010. Newbridge Capital is currently the top shareholder in Shenzhen Development Bank.     The Ping An would acquire no more than a 30 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank after the two deals, and become the top shareholder instead.     The Ping An Group, together with Ping An Life Insurance, currently holds a 4.68 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank.
