WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump administration says it will allow individuals and businesses to delay paying their tax bills for 90 days past the April 15 deadline. It’s part of an effort to inject as much as 0 billion into the economy at a time when the country is in danger of being pushed into a recession by the coronavirus.Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is encouraging Americans who can to file their taxes on or before April 15 to do so that they don’t lose out on their tax refunds. But Mnuchin says that if Americans owe the IRS money, they can defer up to million for individuals and million for corporations without interest and penalties for 90 days. The delay on payments applies to federal returns. Americans will want to double-check their state’s tax deadlines to see if there are any delays applied. The White House is also hoping to send stimulus checks directly to people as the nation grapples with the pandemic.President Donald Trump and Mnuchin said during a White House briefing that they want to send checks to Americans in the next two weeks in an effort to curb the economic impact.Across the United States, over 4,660 people have been infected by the COVID-19 virus and 95 people have died. 1234

Wimbledon has been canceled for the first time since World War II because of the coronavirus pandemic. The All England Club announced after an emergency meeting that the oldest Grand Slam tournament in tennis would not be held in 2020. Wimbledon was scheduled to be played on the outskirts of London from June 29 to July 12. "Following a series of detailed deliberations on all of the above, it is the Committee of Management’s view that cancellation of The Championships is the best decision in the interests of public health, and that being able to provide certainty by taking this decision now, rather than in several weeks, is important for everyone involved in tennis and The Championships," the club said in a statement Wednesday. The club added tickets will be refunded, and fans will be given the opportunity to purchase tickets for the same day and court during the 2021 tournament. The club also said it is in the process of developing a plan to support "those who rely on The Championship" for financial support, including staffers and players. The club did not go into specifics.Wimbledon now joins the growing list of sports events scrapped in 2020 because of the COVID-19 outbreak. That includes the Tokyo Olympics, the NCAA men's and women's college basketball tournaments and the European soccer championship. The last time Wimbledon was called off was 1945. 1384

WASHINGTON— President Donald Trump booked back-to-back Memorial Day appearances amid the coronavirus pandemic. Trump first participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. He was joined by first lady Melania Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, his defense secretary and other cabinet membersThe president laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier overlooking rolling hills dotted with white tombstones. Presidents typically honor fallen military members by laying a wreath and delivering a speech at the hallowed burial ground across the Potomac River from Washington. But the pandemic has led to changes this year because of restriction on gatherings.Watch the ceremony below:Next, the president headed to Baltimore to speak at the Fort McHenry National Monument. It’s where the hoisting of a huge American flag to celebrate an important victory over the British during the War of 1812 inspired “The Star-Spangled Banner.”Watch the Baltimore event below:Baltimore's mayor is unhappy about Trump's visit, saying it sets a bad example when many residents have been told to limit travel. Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young also says the city can't afford the cost of a presidential visit when city revenue is declining because of the virus outbreak. 1293

Vice President Mike Pence canceled a previously scheduled event in New Hampshire on Tuesday to return to the White House, two White House officials told CNN, though the reason for scrapping the event was not immediately clear. The vice president's spokeswoman said Pence never left the Washington area and that the event will be rescheduled."Something came up that required the @VP to remain in Washington, DC. It's no cause for alarm. He looks forward to rescheduling the trip to New Hampshire very soon," Alyssa Farah wrote in a tweet. An official close to the vice president told CNN that there was no emergency, saying, "the VP was called back to the White House but no cause for alarm."Pence was scheduled to travel to Manchester, New Hampshire, to participate in a roundtable discussion with patients at the Granite Recovery Center headquarters and deliver remarks on the opioid crisis and illegal drug flow into the state. 939
