SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After thousands of Art Institute of California - San Diego students were let down by the institute they trusted, some faculty members are left wondering if they'll receive their final paychecks.Student worker Stefon Harris was waiting for a check on Friday that never came. “Just been checking and checking and checking and it never showed up, it never showed up. I only have in my account," said Harris. The for-profit college abruptly shut down on March 8. The school's operator, the for-profit Argosy University, shut down the campus after court documents alleged it misused millions of dollars in federal funds.“it was shell-shocking, you don’t plan for stuff like that," said Harris. On Monday Harris received a letter from the court-appointed receiver for Dream Center Education Holdings (DCEH), the parent company of the Art Institute. The letter says that given the financial circumstances funds have not been secured and pay is delayed. The letter goes on to say they are doing everything they can to expedite payment for funds owed. 1073

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Sheriff's Department employee has been removed from duty after reportedly sharing a vulgar image.Although 10News hasn't seen the image, it was described as a vulgar image depicting George Floyd. The department says the image was shared electronically and was brought to the attention of leaders by a member of the department. The employee hasn't been identified."We were so disgusted that an employee may have shared such a vulgar image that we took immediate action," the department said in a statement to 10News.The department says the employee was removed from their official duties and had their peace officer authority removed."The Sheriff's Department does not tolerate any acts or actions by its employees that are a detriment to our core values. We also cannot comment on an active investigation because of Penal Code 832.7," the department added.An internal affairs investigation is underway, the department says. 962

"The programs that we have here at Fuerte are really empowering the students to think differently. They are really empowering them to challenge the adults to rethink education," said Kristen Goodrich, Principal of Fuerte Elementary. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A school bus crashed into a San Diego Center for Children dormitory Wednesday afternoon, creating a massive hole in the side of the building.Officials say a San Diego Unified School District bus driver lost control of the bus on the 3000 block of Armstrong Street, causing the bus to collide with the building.No children were inside the building or the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.Contractors have responded to the scene of the crash to assess the damage to the building. Officials with the center say all eight rooms in the dormitory are unusable following the incident. 659

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man thanked lifeguards Thursday for saving his life after he fell from the Ocean Beach pier.Adrian Castillo, 19, was drinking alcohol with his brother and friends in January when he suddenly fell backwards into the cold water.Castillo’s brother called 911 and after nine minutes, lifeguards Marc Brown and Jim Lockwood found him floating face-down in the water.Castillo was technically dead for five minutes.He spent three days in a coma and also suffered pneumonia from the cold water.“I have a scar in the back of my head,” said Castillo. “I have a couple of scars on my chest from grabbing on the poles.”Castillo is now fully recovered.“I’m very grateful,” said Castillo.  “If it wasn’t for them I probably would have been lost out in the ocean for like a month or something.”“We’re happy that you’re back and safe and alive,” Brown said to Castillo. “You have a second chance in life now.”San Diego Lifeguards, Police and city officials want everyone who heads outdoors this summer to be educated on rip current safety, drowning prevention, bonfires and know what they should not bring to our local beaches.The city has created a website to help guide locals and visitors to safety. 1230
