They are the namesakes of specially-trained dogs tasked with keeping us safe.After six years working together, you'd think much of the work Roxanne Sherwin does with her explosive detection K-9 at the Transportation Security Administration is just going through the motions."This is all just a game for him," Sherwin says.But there's one thing that always makes her pause; calling his name."Every time I call his name I think about the family and what he's doing," Sherwin says. "And that he's out here every day to make sure that that doesn't happen again."Her K-9 Qquappe is named in honor of Lincoln Quappe, a first response firefighter in New York City who died in the 9-11 terrorist attacks."What did you think when you found out where his name came from?" Correspondent Kumasi Aaron asked Sherwin. "I had no idea that they had that program."Qquappe is just one of hundreds of dogs that were named after 911 victims as a part of the TSA Puppy Program from 2002 to 2012. From the moment Sherwin found out, every scent, every sniff with Qquappe took on new meaning."It took a minute to digest that because that's a big responsibility," Sherwin says. "You're taking on someones namesake like that and you want to be the best that you can be so you can uphold it. To the honor that they did."It meant even more when Sherwin met one of Lincoln Quappe's childhood friends, and sent pictures of Qquappe to his family."It hit home," Sherwin says. "It really hit's home with all the victims because it's not just a name that's there. You're actually talking to somebody that knew this person and grew up with them and knew all about them."While Qquappe might not understand the significance of his name, Sherwin says he embodies the same desire to protect and serve as his namesake."He's such a people lover," Sherwin says. "He loves children. He loves his job."And working alongside Qquappe, with everything he and his name represent, makes Sherwin love hers even more."Does it give you a sense of pride?" Travelers heading to the Caribbean, Latin America, or Hawaii on American Airlines will now have the opportunity to participate in its COVID-19 pre-flight testing program."Our initial pre-flight testing has performed remarkably well, including terrific customer feedback about the ease and availability of testing options," said Robert Isom, President of American Airlines said in a press release on Monday. "This next phase is an invigorating step forward in American's relentless pursuit of reopening international travel and driving industry recovery while delivering a safe and positive travel experience."Beginning Nov. 16, passengers traveling from Miami, Florida, to Belize, Grenada, and St. Lucia will be offered pre-flight COVID-19 testing with a convenient at-home testing option.American stated travelers to each country will have three options when it comes to testing using an at-home test from LetsGetChecked:Belize: Travelers over the age of 6 must complete testing within 72 hours of departure.Grenada: Passengers must complete testing within seven days before their departure date.St. Lucia: Anyone over the age of 5 must complete testing within seven days of departure."Customers cannot board flights to St. Lucia without presenting a negative test result. TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) — Health conditions continue deteriorating Friday in Tijuana where thousands of migrants are camping, contributing to the opening of a second shelter 45 minutes away.The new shelter in an area known as El Barretal has a roof, dry floor and can house 3,000 migrants, Rodolfo Olimpo, a representative from Baja California State's Special Committee on Migration Issues said. Friday, about a thousand were shuttled by bus to the new shelter. There are no lighting fixtures, but migrants are using portable lights as well as flashlights.In the first shelter, the floor is mud, puddles everywhere and the entire area is littered with junk. One man brushed his teeth over a muddy puddle.10News Reporter Laura Acevedo went to Tijuana Thursday and spoke with the migrants living in squalor. One woman from Honduras, Leida Reyes, told her she thinks this is better than what they lived with back home.She said she couldn't walk around freely without fear, her children never attended school because it was too dangerous.When asked about the President's hard stance on migrants, she said she thinks he'll have a change of heart when he understands they're coming from a country that they can no longer live in safely.Reyes has been in TJ for about 20 days and is waiting for her number to be called so her case for asylum can be processed.No one has stated how long either shelter will be in place. 1418

Thousands of elevator permits in San Diego County are out of date, according to the Department of Industrial Relations. In San Diego and Imperial Counties, a DIR spokesperson said there are 12,541 elevator permits issued. Of those, 6,932 are expired. DIR spokesperson Frank Polizzi said there is no penalty for expired permits, “but a unit should not be running if it has been tagged out of service for a maintenance/safety reason.”Team 10 visited several elevators in downtown San Diego and found there was no permit displayed in the elevator at all—including an elevator at Horton Plaza and one operated by the City of San Diego. Polizzi said there are other reasons a displayed permit could be expired, besides the elevator being out of compliance. The owner could be waiting for a Cal/OSHA permit inspection or they have not posted the most updated permit. 868
