VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Department is reviewing the actions of several deputies after a witness posted a controversial video on Facebook. The video shows two deputies walking a man in handcuffs just before they slam his head into a fence. Later in the video, they can be seen smacking another man in the head who is already down on the ground in handcuffs. The woman who shared the video on Facebook claims they deputies used excessive force and wants justice for the two men. A Sheriff's spokesman says the video was taken on Monday morning when deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at a Vista apartment complex. When deputies arrived the suspect was wielding a weapon and holding someone against their will, the spokesman said. During the arrest, other parties fought with the deputies. The spokesperson says the department is reviewing the body camera footage and the cell phone video.10News visited the scene of the arrests. Outside the complex, you can still see smashed plants.    1071

Want to get away but school has started? You're not alone if you're dreaming of a place to take a break while your kids do their distance learning. There's a new trend out there called "schoolcations" for those who are ready to take a trip. There's a little bit of something for everyone. For those craving a beach getaway, there is the Four Seasons Punta Mita.“it's a beautiful destination in the Mexican Pacific,” said Miguel Peregrina, the on-site communications and marketing director at Four Seasons Punta Mita.“We were thinking what should we do because on top of all that it was long stays,” Peregrina added. “People are arriving for three weeks or longer stays.”This particular resort was the first of the of the Four Seasons to open in Latin America. After their post pandemic re-opening in early July, Peregrina said they started getting some interesting inquiries.“We are receiving a lot of requests for a study buddy, which is like a nanny with technical expertise familiar with operation in the resort that can stay with the kids while they’re doing online classes,” Peregrina said. “And we have professional tutors.”There's golf, tennis, and folklorico lessons if you're so inclined. You get to work in a cabana, while your kids do their work too.If you have mountains on your mind, you can head to the Poconos, where students are working on computers while wearing masks“They’re doing their homework or they’re online with their class at the moment, trying to stay engaged with their schoolwork,” Robert Howell, general manager of the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resorts, said. The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resorts has a "Monitored Learning Environment" for children.“Mom and dad are out and about; they could be on the porch having coffee, they could be on the golf course or sitting by the river, or swimming in the river,” Howell said. The historic Inn opened in 1911 and also boasts historic golfing."We have golf on an island in the middle of the Delaware River,” Howell said. “When you cross the bridge, you’re immersed in golf. Sam Sneed, Arnold Palmer, Walter Hagen, it has a storied history.”There are also hikes on the Appalachian Trail, river trips, or just fresh air on a patio. If your kids are craving a water park, there's the Howl N'Learn option at Great Wolf Lodge. For now, five of its 19 locations are offering a "schoolcation."“The parents who when they’re at home with their kids really don’t get a break to focus on their work,” Great Wolf Lodge communication director Jason Lasecki said. “We gave them the opportunity to put them in this independent learning center and then the parents can go off and take those conference calls and do those work things that they’re not able to do when they’re doing the remote learning with their kids.”Lasecki says they realized last spring that parents were having a hard time making it all happen.“When you’re done with your school, you’ve got the water park there,” Lasecki said. “You can go have fun in the water park that afternoon even if it's the day of your check out. You can stay and play in the water park until it closes that night so you’ve got all those fun activities at Great Wolf that you can take advantage of.” 3196

WASHINGTON — A member of the White House coronavirus task force says the increase in U.S. cases isn’t just because of more testing.Admiral Brett Giroir of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. says the proof of the increase is the uptick in hospitalizations and deaths nationwide from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.Cases of the virus are spiking across the country, particularly across the upper Midwest. Last week, the U.S. recorded two days of record increases of new COVID-19 cases.President Donald Trump has been saying the U.S. is “rounding the turn” on the pandemic. The president also contends the news media are spending too much time focusing on the health crisis. However, a model by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington — a model routinely cited by the White House — notes that hospital resource use has risen steadily in recent weeks and is projected to spike in the coming days.Giroir, who was put in charge of coronavirus testing by Trump, says the nation is at “another critical point” in the response to the pandemic. He is urging people to keep wearing masks, wash their hands and practice social distancing. Giroir says a safe and effective vaccine is “around the corner.” 1270

Volunteers and law enforcement combed the side of a highway on Thursday looking for evidence in the disappearance of a missing Wisconsin teenager whose parents were found dead in their home this week. But the search along Highway 8 in Barron County, Wisconsin, didn't turn up anything of value, according to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.Hours earlier, Fitzgerald asked for 100 volunteers to help in the routine search for evidence that could be related to the case as the search for Jayme Closs entered its fourth day.The Federal Bureau of Investigations has added the teenager to its top missing persons list, KMSP television station reports. 660

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is dismissing the latest White House offer in COVID-19 aid talks as “one step forward, two steps back.” However, the California Democrat said in a letter that she's still hopeful that progress can be made toward a deal. The White House had boosted its offer before Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke on Friday afternoon, but the speaker says she wants to agree on specific language about what the money will go towards.“When the President talks about wanting a bigger relief package, his proposal appears to mean that he wants more money at his discretion to grant or withhold, rather than agreeing on language prescribing how we honor our workers, crush the virus and put money in the pockets of workers,” said Pelosi.President Donald Trump is eager for an agreement before Election Day, even as his most powerful GOP ally in the Senate says Congress is unlikely to deliver relief by then.Pelosi tells colleagues in the letter that while the administration tried to address some Democratic concerns, disagreement remained on many priorities.“A key concern is the absence of any response on a strategic plan to crush the virus,” said Pelosi. “We cannot safely reopen schools, the economy and our communities until we crush the virus with the science-based, national plan for testing, tracing, treatment and isolation, and for the equitable and ethical distribution of a safe and effective vaccine once developed. This strategic plan is contained in the Heroes Act.”Democrats are also pushing for strong OSHA protections to keep workers safe as they risk their lives to keep the economy running.“We are urging the Administration to support our strong OSHA language, which requires OSHA to issue an enforceable emergency temporary standard within seven days that covers all workers from COVID-19 infections,” wrote Pelosi. In her letter, Pelosi went on to explain what is in the Heroes Act, the stimulus bill that’s been passed by the House, but rejected by Republicans. 2035
