SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Association of Governments will debate Wednesday the best way to get people to the airport. Four possible plans involving public transportation are involved. One would create a central terminal on Navy property near Old Town and tunnel under the airport with a people mover. Two other proposals would involve a terminal, but use an elevated people mover. The fourth option would extend the trolley, adding tracks along Harbor Drive. Dorene Robertson said the predictability of public transportation would be a benefit. “I know the shuttle's not going to get in a car accident, I know I'm going to get here when I plan to get here, I'm not going to get stuck on the freeway and not get here. So it takes away the uncertainty of getting to the airport on time,” said Robertson. Alex Santos, who typically relies on Uber to reach the airport, says he would only use public transportation if it was direct. “If it was dropping me off in front of my house or a townhome I live in, or a block away, that'd be perfect.” The SANDAG plans would cost anywhere from .8 billion to .7 billion dollars. They would serve as many as 44,000 people per day by 2050 and decrease traffic on Harbor Drive as much as 35 percent. City of San Diego and U.S. Navy officials signed an agreement last week to revamp the Navy complex near Old Town with the central terminal as a possibility for the project. 1424

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The public is invited to the inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony Saturday at the new Legacy International Center in Mission Valley.Dozens of workers made their last-minute touches Friday ahead of the center's tree lighting, which plans to pull out all the holiday stops."We'll have Christmas caroling out there, and Santa will be out there. Just social fun," Jim Penner, executive director of the center, said. Penner said Saturday's event is the first of a three-phase opening for the nearly 0-million hotel, theater, and attraction center opening next year. The center is the brain-child of San Diego-based televangelist Morris Cerullo, who made his fortune as a popular televangelist in the 1980s and 1990s."He [Cerullo] wanted people around the world to be able to experience the people that he got to know through his 70 years of travel to 95 nations in the world," Penner said. Penner told 10News the center was initially supposed to be a small ministry training center and possibly a dormitory. But with the availability of the 18-acre former Mission Valley Resort, they went big. The hotel will have 126 rooms, including 12 suites. The fine-dining restaurant is a steakhouse, which is next to the pool and spa. The attraction building has a domed, 4D theater designed by former Disney Imagineers. Audiences will get to feel like they're flying over Jerusalem in a ride created by the same designers who made Soarin' Over California at Disney California Adventure Park.Another attraction will be an award-winning, computerized dome, where people can digitally tour the world."As we get to know each other, the world gets smaller," Penner said. Before the council approved the blueprints in 2017, critics of the Legacy International Center feared that traffic would be a nightmare. But Penner said that the improvements they made on the roads turned out to have unexpected benefits. "We widened Hotel Circle the entire length of our property. We have 1000 feet of frontage there. And a nice benefit of that is when we had this last big rain last week, in the past, Hotel Circle would flood like crazy in front of the hook ramps here, and no flooding at all!"The inaugural Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The number of 16-24 year olds looking for jobs is rising across the country, almost getting back to the level it was at before the recession.According to numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 20.89 million teens and young adults had jobs in the summer of 2017. That made it the 7th straight year of employment growth in that industry.Similarly, the unemployment rate for people aged 16-24 fell for the 7th straight year. It was at 9.6%, the lowest it had been since 2000. While there still aren't as many teens and young adults working as there was in the 1950's, 60's and 70's, it's a sign that more are looking for, and finding jobs."I'm Saving for a Car"Like many of his peers, Coronado High School Junior Quinn Perez plans to work this summer. He already has a job lined up at Holland's Bicycles."I've worked there for about 2 years now and I've worked my wya up to one of the manager positions," Quinn says.His goal is simple, to save enough for a car."I've always been a fan of Camaros," he says, before adding, "But I'll probably go for a Honda or Jetta or something like that. A little more in my price range."Other students just like having their own money to spend, like Anna Hinz, who is still looking for a job for the summer."It makes me feel like I have a little control over everything I do, rather than my parents making plans for me.""It's all about the attitude"But for the people who do the hiring, why you're working can be as big of an indicator of success as anything.Patti Woods is the Talent Acquisition Supervisor for the YMCA. She oversees hiring of around 1,500 teens and young adults each summer to work as counselors and lifeguards.She says your attitude is as important as anything else."Skills can be learned," she says. "I want people who are positive, flexible and willing to take feedback."Woods advises teens and young adults to start their job search early. The YMCA does most of their summer hiring in the spring, because they have thousands of applicants to consider."Don't think you need to wait for the summer to find a summer job," she says. If you wait for summer, a lot of those jobs will be gone already."Woods says the Y still has some open positions. Other fields, like retail and restaurants still have lots of openings as well. A recent search of sites like jobs.com and Monster.com for the keywords "Teen Jobs, San Diego" turned up hundreds of jobs.
